I really do not know anything about the depth of this draft, but the first round looks weak, especially on the defensive side. Limited supply and great demand usually push up the board quarterbacks and pass rushers, and I suspect that will be true again this year. But I am not sure there are many defensive players in this draft worthy of the 14th pick, and we don't need to pick at that spot a wide receiver, though I love the Georgia tight end (who will be off the board by the time we pick). If we stay at 14 and don't trade up (flip a coin), we seem to be looking at the best offensive tackle available.

To those who have been studying this draft, how does it overall look to you?

Some mocks I've looked at have several O.T. going pretty quickly.

As bad as I would like for us to get JD5, we can't count on Andrus Peat to last a whole year at left tackle. (I'm a Peat fan)
Right tackle appears to be a huge question mark as well.
It doesn't matter who the coach or QB will be if they don't fix the O-line.

1. Offensive Line
2. Defensive Line
3. LB
4. Safety

900. Quaterback

Offensive and Defensive Line has to be addressed; Our ability to prevent pressure and create pressure has defiantly become our biggest need.
Derek Carr is our QB for the next few years. Most people believe he can be cut next year, but we still incur a 17 mil dead cap hit. Expect him here for the full 4 years; with a replacement being drafted or signed in year 3 or 4.
Demario is pushing mid 30's; you can see the decline starting this year.

Honey Badger is getting old; Maye is not a starter
Andrus Peat is old and injury prone. Sadly he may of been our best offensive lineman this year.
Rotating door at tackle this year with street free agents
Cam Jordan has shown that age always wins; we no longer have a dominant DE on roster. Granderson is serviceable; but not a game wrecker like Cam was.

Peat had a healthier season on the outside. During the Falcons game, I heard a tidbit that the Falcons kept Callais Campbell healthier this year by lining him up at end more, than in the trenches at DT and I think it applies to Peat. He's just to easily rolled up on from the interior but seemed to have a career resurgence in play and health at LT. He's already on the books for 2024, might as well resign him and draft an OT

lots of developmental projects outside the top 10 it seems so far IMO.

excited for the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on 1/28, East/West Shrine Game on 2/2, & the Senior Bowl on 2/4.

mocks, as usual this time of the year, are all over the place. this would be the ideal year to trade back if possible.

Jalen Daniels will go high. If New England does not pick him at 3, teams will be trying to trade up into the top 5 picks to select him. I can certainly see Atlanta trying to do so.

The Saints have many needs. And a problem with our drafting in recent years is that we have moved away from trying to draft the best available player within reason to drafting strictly for need. The results of that change in approach shows. Drafting is really hard. And certainly teams should try to draft players who fit what they do on offense and defense. But when a team drafts to fill holes, drafting becomes much tougher.

Our biggest needs--offensive line and speed on defense. Overall, this team is not in good shape going forward. A historically weak schedule this year masked to some extent just how mediocre our talent is.

If they had any sense whatsoever they'd trade up into the top 10 to get Brock Bowers... But they don't, and they sheet the bed so badly on the Penning pick... that they are going to feel like they have no choice but to take the best OT that falls to them... typical of what we have done in the beta era of Saints football.

Lots of good OL and DL prospects. I suspect that will be our first two picks.

2024 NFL Draft is April 25-27, 107 days away. It will be held at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit. It will be broadcast on ESPN, ABC, and the ESPN App.

Subscribing to the BPA theory is fine unless that player happens to be of least need. However, drafting for purely need when other better players are available may not be the best option either. Find a balance or trade up or down to get there. As an example, imho, it would hardly make sense for the Saints to sit and take a CB if he were the BPA at 14. That's probably the position of least need for the Saints to draft number one.

There will be a number of mock drafts nationally and by members here that will have more changes than a baby diaper changing station between now and draft day.

I think the Saints should focus on OL or DL in the 1st Round but if TE Brock Bowers or a surefire number one WR fell to the Saints I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Saints will draft a defensive lineman from a small Canadian Art school college who has an injury history traced back to pee wee football. We will trade next year's first round pick to move 3 spots to get him. The team we trade with will draft two future hall of famers with those picks.

In the 5th round we will draft a guy who converted to QB his 3rd year of a college program that only plays flag football. We will all fall in love with him during training camp the first time Carr looks like me running the first team offense.

We end up finishing 8-9, only missing the playoffs due to the points scored tiebreaker with a resurgent Panthers team that hired a head coach who runs up the score against us in a game Dennis Allen says showed our teams never quit attitude while losing by 50.

Can you tell I was a fan when our qbs were Stabler, Todd and Wilson? Or when we drafted Erxleben in the first round?
