What Movies do you Hate that Everyone Else Loves? (1 Viewer)

Add American Beauty. A movie about pedophilia isn't very entertaining to me. Sorry

anything with adam sandler and/or bruce willis

You clearly didn't "get" Napoleon Dynamite. It wasn't about laughing at the nerds, it was about laughing with the nerds.

Oh, that changes my entire opinion of the movie then.

I do not see the attraction to Dumb and Dumber. Yes there are a couple of moments that made me smile, but I don't think it's a comedy masterpiece or anything. Of course, I was going to list on the other thread that the best two movies of all-time were Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Blazin' Saddles. :ezbill:

Absolutely agree. Movies like Dumb and Dumber are insulting in that someone got PAID to write that garbage.

And thank you for mentioning Monty Python...I was trying to think of another "greatest movie" to add to my favorite, "It's a Wonderful Life", and MP & the HG is it.

Austin Powers...all of them.

Most overrated...Blazing Saddles. It made me chuckle but really wasn't that funny.

Austin Powers movies...hated them. Very unfunny. Also didn't like Shrek.

Blazing Saddles, however, makes me roll with laughter.

Star Wars, by a staggering margin. My appreciation for Lucas's genius is for different aspects of it than most others' views of his work.

Top Gun, as well. Gay cinema can be so much, much better.

The Talented Mr. Ripley. One of the few 4-star reviewed movies I remember both my wife and I looking at our watches and each other about 1/2 way thru.

On the other hand, the first time I saw The Blues Brothers I thought it was one of the dullest, dumbest, most heavy-handed things I'd ever seen. I was forced to watch it again a couple of years later, and now about 20 viewings later I now think it's a masterpiece. So go figure.

+ 1

Most overrated piece of crap gangster movie ever made. Doesn't hold a candle to Goodfellas or the Godfather. It's just become trendy for hip hop idiots and kids to claim it as their favorite.

I second Ace Ventura also. I can't believe someone has actually put Pulp Fiction, Caddyshack, Anchorman etc. on their list. Shocking.

OMG I was just thinking the SAME THING about Top Gun but the word in my mind was "homo-erotic". Totally agree about Mr. Ripley too. My friend and I looked at each other and agreed if it didn't end in the next 5 or 10 minutes we would leave. Thankfully, it ended.

Also agree with some of you about Blazing Saddles.

And I think Sideways was WAY overhyped. I mean, it was a decent movie, but people (and the Academy) made it seem like it was going to be earth-shattering.
