What was the 2-0 start? (1 Viewer)

To be fair you have take into account the injuries, but what has doomed the Saints is
poor coaching, undiscipline and sloppy play. It's like the players are not being coached
during their games. For example, the Shaheed muff, someone on the Saints coaching staff
should have reminded him not field that ball inside his 10. I just don't believe that happened.
Yes it was only one play but is was monumental in that game in which the Saints had the
momentum at the time. So during that two winning streak the Saints were healthy and playing
smart and now they are injured, poorly coached and playing stupid.....sorry just being honest.

The 2-0 start was the best version of the 2024 Saints beating two pretty bad teams. There was no real film on the new Kubiak offense and defenses were still in training camp mode. Add injuries to a very thin team, film on the offense and defenses getting into season shape and it all went south. Our players aren't good enough to get us out of it and our coaching is historically bad.

It was what the team is capable of when healthy. We have a starting lineup that can hang with most teams in the league.

But we have zero depth, so even 1 or 2 major injuries is too much to overcome. Let alone the amount that we actually have.

It's a mixture. CAR is bad and DAL isn't good, so those aren't super impressive wins, but...they were both blowouts which is what good teams should do when facing weak teams. However, there has been a LOT of injuries (hence my username). Yes, Dennis Allen being a bad coach does not help. I never wanted him as HC and we'll be better off w/o him. But the injuries do play a role. And then players get discouraged and the coach isn't strong enough to rally them.

A friend and I recently played the what if we'd stayed healthy game and felt we would have been like a Jason Garrett Cowboys season - playoffs, 10 wins or so, but no one's scared of us and we lose our first playoff game in a really stupid way.

It was a 2-0 start.
Simple as that.

The overwhelming majority will say “yes” but I don’t know. Watching what we could have done, IF everyone stayed healthy, was endless possibilities for offense. Unfortunately, the whole scheme was built around everyone staying 100% healthy and with the NFL being the NFL, that was an impossibility. Man at all these injuries. Sigh
But here is the thing. What if McCoy stayed healthy and defenses started to zero in on Shaheed, does Olave actually become productive? What if there are games where defenses stop Kamara? Those two games both Shaheed and Kamara were free.

Absolutely. The more they would do to take away Shaheed would open up olave for the underneath. Realistically, I think if defenses would have fully committed to talking players out of the box to add to the secondary, the running game would have gone wild.
