I've been pondering how Payton likes to do something unplanned for against his opponents. He successfully gets into their heads with plays like the onside kick, Karney as the main weapon, reverse in the redzone, etc.

So, what can he prepare for the playoffs that no one has seen yet and expects?

I'll guess that Reggie actually gets used as wide receiver, for one, and not just for dumps behind the scrimmage line. The game films probably have made everyone comfortable in their expectations of how Reggie will be used, yes? And, considering how virtually everyone has brought the same plan, 'Stop the run first!', this would exploit 8-in-the-box defenses.

With Reggie and Henderson both stretching the defense, AND Colston providing a big target; Who's a safety going to choose to cover? And, we might have Joe Horn back, too!

Anyone think Reggie hasn't been used that way because he doesn't get separation? I honestly don't know. Anyway, that's what I'm guessing will be the next surprise.

I still don't understand why Reggie isn't used down the field more. We threw deep to him against Carolina {big play}, and another game he was wide open but overthrown. The more we stretch the field, the more the underneath stuff will work....

I also could see him resurrecting the halfback pass from Reggie, or Deuce. {or a backward flare pass/double pass}

yeah i think that would be a awesome play to use. motion bush to the outside fake the throw to him and then let deuce take the handoff.

That is exactly what I thought as soon as Boise State ran that play. I would almost bet that Payton stole that play and we will see it at some point in the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised if Karney ran it either.

It's the last play of the game and the Saints are losing by 4.

Brees throws it to Bush who runs for 20 yards and laterals to Coltson. Coltson runs for 3 yards and laterals to Horn who runs for 15 more yards before handing off to Deuce. Deuce is immediately covered and throws a 20 yard backward pass and hits Michael Lewis right in the hands. Lewis gets the ball, avoids 3 tacklers and runs the rest of the way for a touchdown!!!!

You heard it here!!! It's worked before.:)

They've got to get Reggie another shot at that halfback pass.

Do we make the PAT?

;)

If it is setup correctly, it could work. Do about three or four sweeps during the game similar to the HB pass play, then it could really catch a D totally off guard. He just has to be sure that the reciever is open and that Reggie just doesn't float one up there (unless it's COLSTON!!!!!!!).
