what's killing the Saints right now is lack of talented depth (1 Viewer)

First two games with all the starters in - we scored 91 points.

In the beginning of the third game McCoy went down and the string of injuries began. Since then we've averaged 15 points per game, while giving up more points.

The problem isn't necessarily coaching, strategy, or scheme. The problem is we have no quality depth. And the reason we have no quality depth is we've been kicking the can on the salary cap for too many years.
It's coaching and preparation. McCoy went down early week 1 of 2021 and we still were competitive. And this was with a roster that was curbed stomped due to the COVID cap slash. I still believe depth helps but with the way it flew off the rails after EM went down, I have questions.

I would say we have:
* Solid starting lineup when healthy
* Weak depth
* Mediocre coaching

We were missing our starting QB and Starting Center.

But there's no changing yalls mind.
We get that, but it's a reflection of poor organization scouting and coaching. Of course, you can't have starting-caliber backups, but a good FO will find a mid to late-round guy who can be coached up by a good staff. Does anyone not think a Tomlin team wouldn't be better in this same scenario? Of course, he would because they have a better front office and a superior coaching staff.

our whole conditioning, and the staff there to help keep our guys healthy is just FLAT out garbage. every year we have painful injury lists that look like double cd album covers. im sick of the conditioning coaches, our medical staff. fire them all.

Nope, incompetent front office and coaching. We are not the only team that is dealing with injuries. The FO addresses depth and coaching ensures the backups are ready to go. Please stop with excuses, is that you Mick?
hahahaha

I'm laughing because my name is actually Mick. For real. It's just that my last name isn't Loomis.

Some good points were made in this thread.

Some supported OP, others refuted. But all had some valid points. Good dialogue.

My point in posting this thread was - if one has no salary cap left, one can't bring in stars in free agency. One is left only with the draft and hope they work.

We've been in that boat as long as I can remember. 80 million over the cap next year, last I heard.
