When does Colston get his deal? (1 Viewer)

How does this contract sound?: 8yr/$80m

Excessive :hihi:

I would be thinking more along the lines of like 6 years 40+ million, 15+ guaranteed. That represents a slight inflation from the 2006 Reggie Wayne extension.

yep

Its amazing how some people think 445K yr is chump change.

The annual household income in LA, is $30k yr.

just a guess, but i am pretty sure he meant as far as football salaries are concerned

Yeah, look at Berrian- six-years $42 million with 16mil up front

I could definitely live with that. I believe he's earned it and will continue to earn it. If the FO is smart (and we all know that they are, right? Right? ;)) they'll lock him up before training camp to avoid even the (unlikely, given Colston's even-keeled temperament) specter of a hold-out. If they don't get it done then let me say that I would understand if he did hold out.

It won't happen. He'll be locked up somewhere in the April-July timeframe. Probably Evans and Smith as well.

That's right, Berrian did just get a deal. So yes, I would expect it to be in-line with those figures. I think Colston is way, way better then Berrian of course, but market-wise that's where he ranks.

I think the smart thing to do would be to extend Will Smith and Evans this year. I'd try to work out a long term deal w/ Colston next year, and if I couldn't get it done, I'd tender him the highest RFA offer. I think one of Evans or Colston needs to be extended this year. And Evans will be cheaper than a premier WR. Then we go into next year with the leverage of the RFA tender in negotiaionts with Colston.

If not that, then just wait till next season to negotiate extensions for both Colston and Evans and have the RFA tender as a fallback. The Smith deal ought to get done this year IMO, though. But it may not happen sooner than later b/c of how much the other DE is getting paid. Just my rambling thoughts.

We typically restructure with our guys after the draft, and usually closer to training camp.

Grant got done near the draft, last season, but that's because he had the franchise tag. A few years back, Joe Horn got down in late May-early June. Deuce and McKenzie got their new deals right at the start of training camp, I believe.

Colston will get his. Just give it time.

The FO will most likley wait until next year. Why? If he performs so-so they can use that in the negotiations, if he continues to perform then they have another argument to sign him up to a massive contract without losing face. A win-win for the FO.
