It's week 10 and we're now past the halfway mark of the season. No team has been mathematically eliminated as of yet. Several including our Saints are on the brink of it. Currently the league has 9 teams with 2 wins on their records. That's 28% of the teams in the league. There will be some separation at the bottom after this week as some of the 9 teams will win and some will lose. Most won't win many more games this season. On the upper end there are only 14 teams with a winning record at this point, 7 in the AFC and 7 in the NFC. And while that looks like the parity the NFL wants; I doubt the league likes the idea of so many teams already having records so poor that their fan bases have already given up on their seasons. What's a little more interesting is that the NFC is a little more competitive so far this season than the AFC. The #11 AFC seeded Titans have a 2-6 record and the #11 NFC seeded Bucs have a 4-5 record

Teams On BYE This Week - CLE, GB, LV, SEA

Thursday Night Football

CIN (4-5) @ BAL (5-3)
- An AFC North matchup between two of the top teams in the division. A win by the Bengals would vault them into the conversation of the playoff seeding and also put them into contention for the division. A loss would just about eliminate their hopes to win the division but wouldn't totally ruin their chances to make the playoffs. A wind by the Ravens would temporarily have them leapfrog the Steelers and move into 1st place in the division. I am an LSU homer and without any apologies I'm all for the Bengals in this one and would love to see Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase light it up tonight. Of course, I'd also like to see a close game between the two to hold my interest.

Breakfast Game From Munich, Germany Early Sunday Morning

NYG (2-7) @ CAR (2-7)
- An NFC matchup that is arguably the Toilet Bowl game of the week. The winner of this may be the loser in the long run. Considering draft position, a win not only puts one up over the over by a game but effectively a game and a half with the head-to-head victory. I'd be happy with the Pansies winning.

Sunday Early Games

NE (2-7) @ CHI (4-4)
- Another game which will have draft implications. The Bears are an up-and-coming team that will win some more this year. I'm for the Patriots.

BUF (7-2) @ IND (4-5) - The Bills have all but wrapped up the AFC East. Colts are barely on the outside of the playoff race. I'd prefer an Indy win to keep things close.

MIN (6-2) @ JAX (2-7) - This could be a win win situation. A Jags win moves them up in the draft and knocks the Queens down in their postseason race. Go JAGS!

DEN (5-4) @ KC (8-0) - A huge AFC West matchup. KC will win the division when it's all said and done but someone needs to knock them off their perch. Go Broncos!

PITT (6-2) @ WAS (7-2) - I'd prefer to see JD5 shine and get a win over Russ any day of the week, but I have to consider the draft picks the Saint will be getting from the Lattimore trade. I think the Commandos are dramatically improved this year and for the immediate years to come. They can take a loss here for the home team.

SF (4-4) @ TB (4-5) - A huge NFC matchup between two teams that could both still see themselves in the playoffs. Normally I would never want 3 NFC South teams to win in the same week. Stranger things have happened. My disdain for the 49ers from days of the past actually is greater than that of the present-day Buckaroos. For me a SF loss spirals them down and hurts their overall playoff chances while at the same time a TB win hurts their draft position and keeps them in the hunt with ATL for the division. It's a bittersweet thought wanting the Buc to win the division for the 4th straight year. I'd prefer that than to ever see the Clowns called Champs.

ATL (6-3) @ NO (2-7) - An NFC matchup between bitter division rivals. ATL now leads the all-time series by one game. The Saints have a chance to tie the series up while also snapping a 7 game losing streak, the longest such losing streak in 25 years. Forget draft status. There's only one mindset against the Clowns. Winning!

Sunday Afternoon Games

TEN (2-6) @ LAC (5-3)
- An AFC matchup between a limping Titans team and a Chargers team that has shown some life lately. I like Herbert. Give me the Bolts.

NYJ (3-6) @ ARZ (5-4) - It's been a long time since the red birds were flying high. Who had them on their bingo Card leading the West at this point? Someone will step up over the remaining eight games and claim the NFC West. I wouldn't mind it being Zona. In the meantime, I'd rather see the Greenies pick up a useless win.

PHI (6-2) @ DAL (3-5) - An NFC East matchup with the Eagles trying to keep pace with the surprising Commandos and the Boyz season on the edge of over. With Dak out for the season that seems more inevitable now. Hard to want either of these teams to win. I'm thinking I'd rather see Big D knock the Iggles down a notch while notching a meaningless win to hurt their draft position and possible start a QB controversy. What will Jerry do with McCarthy when they melt down the stretch?

Sunday Night Football

DET (7-1) @ HOU (6-3)
- Probably the game of the week with two of the best teams in the league from each conference. For me I'm going Lions in this one.

Monday Night Football

MIA (2-6) @ LAR (4-4)
- The Fish aren't finished making waves. They have enough talent to knock off a few teams down the stretch. Lambs have won 3 in a row after starting out 1-4 and on the brink of disaster. I'd prefer to see the Fins dehorn the boys from LaLa land. It would also worsen the draft position for MIA. Go Fish!

I guess that Henry and Jackson have to be early MVP candidates. Can the Bengals slow them down tonight!? Not sure and this game is in Baltimore so it looks like the Ravens have a lot going for them. I’m not sure what the Bengals issues are but they have to be considered disappointing so far at 4-5.

An unrelated item that I ran across:

Games like this are the reason I always left out AFC matchups out of my KWTPF writeups. While diehard football fans (and those who sometimes sprinkle some money on games) tend to show interest in every game, most Saints fans only care about the games that can directly affect the Saints standings for a playoff berth. Now that the Saints are no longer in that conversation, there are even fewer fans who care about the teams that are still in the race to New Orleans in February.

Like you my interest was to see those two former LSU greats get another shot at the big prize. I never was a Ravens fan and that's why Jackson's greatness means little to me. I wish the Bengals would have won, but I'm not losing any sleep over any winners or losers in the AFC games. I simply don't care. My only wish is that someone will soon knock the Chiefs off of their undefeated perch. I've had more than enough of their promos for one lifetime.

Wash has my rooting interest. I'll watch if they are on. But for now football will.just serve as background noise while I do things or take a nap.

Well, we lost both the Bengals game and the Bayou Bengals game.

I'm looking forward to Mr. Bingle to show up at the Dome today to throw some snowballs on the Clowns and kickoff the holiday celebrations.
