Who do we risk losing at the end of the season? (1 Viewer)

If I understand things right Polley is here another year because he was put on IR before the season, so his contract rolls over into this season.

We need to keep,
Clark, Danny
Bellamy, Jay
Copper, Terrance
Holland, Montrae
Lake, Antwan
Leisle, Rodney
Lewis, Michael
Shanle, Scott
Stinchcomb, Jon
Stoutmire, Omar Thomas, Hollis
The rest, meh.

Stichcomb is definitely a Restricted Free Agent (RFA). Can't comment on Grant... Haven't seen or heard anymore since the Insider Report.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought a restricted free agent was a player with 3 or less accrued seasons and an expired contract and an unrestricted agent was a players with 4 or more accrued seasons and an expired contract. This is Stinchcombs 4th season and his contract is expiring, therefore he is a UFA.

Accrued seasons is the key phrase, kentish.

Every site I've seen shows Stincomb as a RFA. I can only assume then that he probably wasn't active for at least 6 games in his first year here under Haz to constitute an accrued season.

I.E. He was on the roster, but was he active for at least six games?

Remember, Haz & Co. weren't very high on him that first year - for whatever reason? Looking at it now, I'll never understand why.

See below from the NFLPA website. All 4 of his seasons have been spent on either active, inactive or injured reserve status.

Accrued Seasons – An Accrued Season is a season during which a player has been on full pay status (Active, Inactive or Injured Reserve List) for six (6) or more regular season games. However, a player who is on the Exempt Commissioner Permission List, the Reserve Physically Unable to Perform/Non Football Injury List, or the Practice Squad for any of the six (6) qualifying games will not earn an Accrued Season regardless of his pay status.

I don't think it matters that he was inactive, just that he was collecting a paycheck. Just like IR players...if it was about who was inactive for "X" amount of games, every player that goes on IR before the season would be back the next year, and in the case of Tommy Polley and James Allen for example, that's not how it happens.

You just answered your question, kentish.

If he was on the practice squad for six games in his first season (I'm not sure), then he would not have earned an accrued season in his rookie year, giving him only three now instead of four.

Charles Grant, Hollis Thomas, Jon Stinchcomb, Scott Shanle, Rodney Leisle, Michael Lewis.

Grant and Thomas are keepers for sure. Stinch is reaaly close to a sure fire keeper, but I think Streif could hold the RT job down. I hope we keep Shanle, that kid is a baller.

Grant, Stinchcomb, Shanle and Lewis will be resigned.

Thomas and Leisle will not. I think Thomas was a stop gap for this year only. This was pretty much a career year for him. He is rather old and his best years are behind him. We can't overpay for him and we won't.

I think the Saints will go DT in the 2nd round as a replacement. We draft a run stopping MLB to counter the loss of Thomas.

Was Stinchcomb ever on the practice squad?

They will resign H. Thomas and he will not be expensive

That's what I'm not sure of. If it happened, it would have been in his first season when Haz wasn't pleased with him in training camp. I'll see if I can find out more.

Kentish, couldn't determine if he had ever been on practice squad, but what I did find and notice was that he did not appear in any games for the Saints in 2005 - Last year.

So maybe Haz actually had him as inactive for every game last year, or at least 6, and that would negate 2005.

Games Played
Year Team ........................Games - Game Starts
2003 New Orleans Saints ....6............... 0
2004 New Orleans Saints ....4................. 0
2005 New Orleans Saints ....0 .................0
2006 New Orleans Saints ...16 ...............16
TOTAL 26 16

I think Grant is a real threat to be gone, a lot of teams are going to have money to spend and he will probably be horribly overpaid. Teams love to overpay to get starters from teams that go deep in the playoffs so that could play a role in things. Shanle might not be back if they pick up one of the top outside linebackers as well.

i think hollis will be retained, and get additional dt upgrades, leisle should be ancient history.
I thought lewis contract was done this preseason, even though he was injured to go for a few years?

Thomas should be kept most definitely. I dont understand why anyone would think he wouldnt. Age? That is in the Saints favor and is why he wont command top dollar on the market. He singlehandedly is the reason we are tougher vs the run up the middle and Stevie Wonder can see that. Losing him would be pure stupidity on this Front Office's part.
He has shown he has plenty left in the tank and we are already contenders so he is a good fit for us.

As far as Rodney Leisle? Are you kidding me? What has he ever shown that would make anyone suggest he is a must have resign player? Pass the doobie please.
