Why give up a pick when he was gonna get cut? (1 Viewer)

I have a sense of deja vu with this thread. Wasn't this discussed before?

If Mare hits the open market, he can sign with any team. If we make a trade offer, he can't. It's that simple. I think he was worth a sixth rounder. The Saints obviously wanted a stronger leg for kickoffs, freeing up one spot on the roster as well. If your PK can do both kickoffs and FG's, the team doesn't need two people for those positions.

Can someone inform me about the length remaining on his contract? I thought it was only one year. We nee to sign him long term about halfway into training camp. At least that way, the team gets to see him perform.

expensive

I was wondering when someone would mention the contract. According to a Fla. paper, he's due $1.75M per year for the next three. Ouch! :smashfreakB:That's an expensive kicker, though I think it's a good move. I mean, how many times can the Saints turn 6th and 7th rounders into guys like Colston?? Here's the link to the story:

Exactly. The FO is under no delusion that they're 6th and 7th round picks will magically turn into pro bowlers, or even regular contributers. A 6th for a guy that will kick FG's and EP's effectively *and* save a roster spot we had to blow on a kickoff specialist is well worth it.
