Why no Reggie Deep Ball? (1 Viewer)

Perhaps they are testing Reggie's YAC capability.

I posted this a couple days ago:

oh, and one other thing. Send Reggie more than 10 to 15
yards downfield for receptions. Lets mix it up and send him
deep and intermediate. The D's are keying in on him short.
Stretch it and confuse I say. He can outrun any db so line
him up at wideout and let em loose. Just like Steve Smith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have to find this guy open space

The question shouldn't be why no deep ball because we already know that Brees is more of a steady, accurate passer than a big play passer, which is totally fine with me. The real question should be why they make Reggie run to the outside. I don't know if you watched Reggie much at USC, but most of his runs started inside and then he would work himself towards the sidelines when he would break away. You cannot consistently break off big runs in the NFL going to the outside. Keep it between the Offensive Tackles and the Saints will see that Reggie can get it done inside just like other smaller backs like Warrick Dunn and Tiki Barber. The reason Deuce is doing so well compared to Reggie is not just because of his experience, but also because of the fact that we are putting Deuce in a better position to make plays: in between the Tackles.

At some point, you have to start thinking its Drew's arm that is incapable of such things. I can only recall one deep throwto Colston against the Packers. There has to be more to it because it just makes sense that something like that would have happened already.

I've seen a change in the play executions since Deuce went out in the Philly game. The saints stopped the creative decoys and stopped using Bush as much in the offense.

As for the deep pass, Brees cannot be healthy enough for the long ball. The shoulder is inconsistent on his deep throws. By that I mean if he knows he is going to make the deep pass he can set up for it and throw it somewhat deep, but if its a play where he suddenly sees an open receiver and rushes to throw the deep pass he can't get it there. Its hard to explain unless you have actually been through it. Part of the rehb is redeveloping the throwing mechanics and the deep pass uses alot more of the shoulder than the short to intermediate throws. Poor mechanics will hurt the progress of his rehab.

They always do that fake end around and it seems like if they would have really done it, it would have been good for at least 15 or more yards.

They are saving it for the game winner against Carolina on New Years Eve to have us finish #1 in the division. Thats my bold prediction.

I've been saying this at the games every week. I'm so sick of seeing the four yard loss swing pass till I could puke. Or the 5-yd hook.

The ONLY semi-deep ball was Carolina and it worked great. If we've thrown him another pass over 15 yds I don't remember it.

I love this new coaching staff as much as the rest of you. Although, i for the life of me cannot figure out why they have only gone to reggie deep ONCE this year, and it was sneaking out of the backfield. I mean I'm no offensive coordinator but how hard can it be to kick reggie out wide and tell him to run down field as fast as he can and put horn or colston on some underneath routes that the db's would have to pick up. It just seems like with his speed he should be challenging defenses deep. I watch him when he goes on routes and they always send him in the flat or 5 yards in the middle of the field. Is it Drew's arm strength or is he that bad at running routes? They should at least try it once a game is all I'm saying.

Why? Possible fear that the line can't protect Breez long enough for longer routes to develop? Or it's just the way the offense has been designed until Brees regains full arm strength. Nevertheless, I've been puzzled by the lack of long passes to Bush or more long passes to wrs.

...stole my thunder ...have been thinking this for a while ....hopefully they learned from this loss.

If Peyton can draw up a few plays for Brees and the offense, it will be exciting to watch Bush run down the field and catch TD passes.

Hell, I would just be happy to see Reggie run down the field. Even if he doesn't catch TD passes, he will open up everything underneath and we can march down the field methodically.

I would sure like to see Reggie accross the middle on a linebacker.

It will happen... Each week we see new plays... what a change from a year ago !! I think We'll see Bush running some new routes soon...

I've been wondering about the deep ball to Reggie, myself. I have to think it is coming. I've watched him beat a mismatch a few times but the play went elsewhere. It HAS to be coming.

And it will work.
