Why so many injuries? (1 Viewer)

A big part, I think, is with our salary cap strategy and win-now attitude over the last decade, we are left with a geriatric roster that is slower to recover from both the day-to-day grind of the NFL, plus the unfortunate injuries that crop up.

Healthy, we can beat anybody in the league, but it is really, really hard to stay healthy due to the extreme age of our roster.
Definitely our cap strategy plays a part. We always get under the cap but there's a price to pay and it's lack of quality depth. If this team is 100% healthy they can compete with anyone but once injuries start piling up they are in trouble.

Yep. And some folks say none of that matters. (The cap and the strategy we use regarding the cap)

Because we don't even consider a players injury history before we draft them. If they have talent and slip down because of injury history Payton jumps on them.
We've had an unbelievable run of injuries for the 2 or 3 seasons and all the usual suspects are all out at the same time and a few extra.
Saints have an old roster and simply bad luck.

I was gonna start a thread on this. I really would like an answer. I know football is a violent and injurious sport but why does it seem like the Saints are hit harder than every other team in the league CONSISTENTLY?
No that would be the 49ers

Because this is the team you follow...you notice whenOlineman and backup depth goes down. Other teams also have lots of injuries...

49ers , Steelers, Dolphins., etc.

Injuries increase with age. Look at the age of the players that are hurt or on IR. Most are long time veterans nearing the twighlight of their careers. Are team isn't young anymore

Bad luck.

To which you might ask, how can it be luck if it’s happened so much in the past decade?

To which I’d answer with another question: Have you followed the Saints the last decade?

This and we're the oldest team in the league. Father time is undefeated.
Not really the issue. McCoy and Ruiz aren't old. Taysom just takes a lot of punishment because of how he plays. Demario does not appear to be lost for a lot of time. Gay suffered a broken bone I think. Mathieu is the only one I would attribute to being older.

Hmmm... Miller, McCoy, Gay and Ruiz aren't old. Taysom's injuries are a by-product of how he plays. I'd say Mathieu's injuries could be attributed to age. Yes, Davis is hurt but it doesn't appear to be season ending.
