Do we want the ball first, or do we want the potential for back-to-back possessions on either side of halftime? Normally, it is a no brainer - there is great value in the potential for back-to-back possessions to double dip around halftime.

But our first 2 games so far have pretty much been decided by halftime and our defense has been stout to disallow the double scores. (Actually, Dallas trying to double dip led to them throwing a pick before the half and an additional score for us!)

I still think we want the double dip potential and kick to start the game. But I would not be surprised seeing some of our opponents who win the toss to choose to receive in an attempt to get on the board first.

If we keep playing like we have in the first 2 games, it might not really matter. :)

It won’t matter because the Saints almost never win the toss. Hasn’t hurt much lately. 😎

It doesn’t matter for an actual reason: the Saints are good on both sides of the ball right now. That may change as the season goes on, but at present, it’s kind of “ whatever.”

I do like the conventual wisdom of receiving the ball to start the second half, though.

It’s been an advantage the last couple of weeks to get the ball first. It’s even more of an advantage if we stop the opposing team from scoring first drive and then receive the ball second half. But if they score first it puts more pressure on our offense.

I almost don’t care but lean towards defer.

I see advantages and disadvantages of both ... personally, I'm a defer kinda guy simply because I believe the second half is more important than the first, even if the Saints have proven the last two weeks how important the first half can be

I’d rather recieve with the possibility of scoring a touchdown out the gate on first drive to put the thought in eagles heads like oh sheet here we go and throw them off thier game a little worrying about trying to keep up early.

Because we still don't know what this offense looks like w/ out the lead I'm giving them every opportunity to keep it that way. Maybe later in the season after some adversity and a good gauge of their response I'd be comfy with deferring.
