Defer. At home I want the other team to have the ball when the crowd is pumped after kickoff. And on the road I don't want it first for the same reason. Give it to me when people are still in the concession stand or bathroom after half time.

I think it's really a situational thing though. Personally I would always defer away from home in any stadium besides Seattle and KC or if we think the defense might have a match up issue for whatever reason. In those perceived louder stadiums, receiving makes sense to me because if we can score a TD it puts their offense on edge just a little bit and also takes the crowd down a notch, 2-3 TDs later and the crowd is quiet now. At Home my head still wants to defer in general but if I'm feeling real good about how our offense matches up against the opponents D then I would want the ball and try to score first. It's been brought up by a few former players recently (or maybe just recent to me) that when the Saints get up early in the dome it's really hard to turn that around, especially when the city is really liking the team.

For this poll today I voted receive based on the upcoming opponent and the fact we're at home. I think given the preseason expectations and our opening performance contrasted with how the Eagles D has played, particularly against the run but their secondary hasn't been great either, it's just too good of an opportunity to get the Dome really rocking to pass up.

At home, defer, get your crowd juiced. On the road, receive, set the tone and shut their crowd up.

receive, run the ball down their no-run defense havin' throats. Dont let them have the ball until there's like 6 mins left in quarter, Down 0-7. Hold em to 3 and out. Play action on 2nd and short and hit Rasheed for a long TD. 14-0 by the end of first quarter, 28 - 3 at half. Final 52 - 10.

1. receive
2. establish tone
3. finish opponent
4. repeat

It's absolutely situational....but if I have a good D I'm deferring most of the time.....but I also acknowledge that with how well the Saints offense is playing that going up 7-0 with the first drive is also a really great thing....

But, I sure like getting the ball to start the 2nd half.....

Kick!

Get the D on the field.. make the statement.. get the ball 1st after the half.. win the day!
