Winter Olympics (1 Viewer)

The craziest athlete's in the world must be downhill skiers.

Football players might get a concussion, and/or a torn ACL.

These skiers are always introduced as "Next up is Yngvei from Norwegia, fresh off of spine replacement surgery..."

Then their human interest/backstory piece fades in with "They said I'd never walk again, much less ever strap on another ski"

Then they laugh in the face of God by ignoring this near death experience and keep doing the same thing all over again (now with their new pig spine). Despite the work of an army of health care pros and physical therapists they go back out to break their central nervous system again.

They are nuts. You can't really tell on TV just how steep that slope is. They have some POV videos out there. While falling down a mountain at insane speeds you can't even see what's past the next blind turn.

Add big wave surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders to the list....I think the key to being able to do those things (other than freakish athletic ability and reflexes) is the ability to turn your brain off and not think too much and just do it....you can't be rational and reasonable about it....

For the most part, I have had the Olympics on almost constantly since it started just as background noise. Of course, while curling is on, I watch a bit here and there, but it's just something of a "tradition" that it's on my TV while I do other stuff.

I don't watch skating at all.....I also think Russia's treatment of their athletes is reprehensible and probably a microcosm hint on how they treat their people as a whole....

I just saw an article about this. https://www.rollingstone.com/cultur...penis-reni-lindholm-beijing-olympics-1310303/

How does a man who trains so long to compete in this sport not know the importance of keeping this area warm? :covri:
The writer was so proud of his 3rd pole line he forgot how paragraphs work

Reuters reports that Remi Lindholm, a Metallica-loving skier on Team Finland, began suffering frostbite on his third pole during the 50km mass start race event Sunday; the event itself was conducted under such brutal, frigid conditions that the race was first delayed by an hour and then shortened to 30 kilometers instead of 50 to protect the competitors, who wore a thin layer.
