With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (115 Viewers)

Again we have a 1st or 2nd round pick at every OLine position save 1. We have built it. It has to play better. Lions have also drafted WR TE and RB early in drafts before they became contenders. These things require context
And just what did they start with ??? St Brown was a 4th rd pick and he's their best WR. And when you have the #12,18,34,45,68,and 96 in ONE draft you can make picks like that when you have already spent high picks on your OL and DL

And as we have this discussion…. Gibbs has 3 TDs tonight…. Leads the league in TDs…. Vikes have no answer, and I believe he was picked 12 overall.

I realize the Lions have a bunch of other pieces…. But you can build around that I would think.
He’s great but their o line is miles and miles above ours. They may have the best o line in the league.

Also their TE and WR’s are miles above ours lol. Taking pressure off of the RB.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have their offense, just saying we need so much.

And you’re right we have invested heavily (pun) in our o line, it just hasn’t panned out.

Like say a guy that averages 17.5 sacks a year never leaves for another team…. Right?
If you’re talking about Hendrickson that doesn’t make the sense you think it does, especially when the the Bengals extended him for 21M/year. Literally making my point

Trey Hendrickson has entered the chat
SMH how many sacks did he have the last yr he was here? That was miss-evaluation NOT after the fact

Why? How about Hunter or Mack? Those make sense? Or are we just gonna keep generalizing our stances with old wives tales and cliches?

He was moved like any RB would be…. They all were. At the top of their games.

This was also covered and they do…. We have 1st or 2nd round picks at every Oline position save 1…. WTH else are we supposed to do there before we start drafting guys that can actually stay healthy and score points?

How about this? Let's say the Saints do as some say and build the trenches first and ignore premium positions till they've built that up first. But then they are picking in the teens and have to trade up to where they are now. Why not just get those premium guys now that the Saints already have a top 10 draft pick. There's no way to build a Superbowl roster in 1 year. If you have a chance to get a good player, you get him because you may not have as good of an option in next year's draft.

Mack was traded for two 1st, his team didn’t let walk in FA 🤣. He also signed a deal worth $140M. Barkley is the best RB in football and got $36M.

It’s not generalization or old wives tales, it’s just knowing ball.

I acknowledged that in my response. We need better talent evaluation, period.

So he was moved…. Even though it was via trade and he’s not a RB…. Interesting. Go on.

They debunk your premise that fat guys should only be drafted in the 3rd or later rds. The Lions have had a tremendous bounty of high draft picks, they started out building their OL and DL and they drafted well, we did not. That does not mean that you don't build your lines 1st and the best OL fat guys come in the 1st and 2nd rds. The Lions were ABLE to pick Gibbs and Williams and LaPorta because they not only had all those picks to address other areas but because they built their OL and DL FIRST

That’s not my premise…

My premise is we shouldn’t draft anymore fat guys early until we have some damn players that can score points…. Because we have been doing that to no avail for the last 8 seasons.

We have already built ours too…. They need to play better. You can’t keep doubling your bet every time you lose…. At some point you have to play at another table.
