Yes, it was the initial 53. Haener suspended, Smith to short term IR. Now Turner to short term IR. Bowden and Phillips signed. Should be one roster spot open. And yes, I agree Smith would be a great addition.

Maybe, maybe not. Allen expressed confidence in Shaheeds ability to flip field position but also hinted that “if there’s a chance to get it at the 25, we’d like to get it at the 25”

Perhaps they’ll remove him from KR but keep him on PR and give the new KR less freedom.

I definitely could see that happening. And, put Shaheed out there fielding kickoffs if we're trailing and need a big play.

ST value and takes TQS’ roster’s spot while he’s on IR

I figured this was coming, Shaheed is too valuable to risk injury on ST. He's become to much of a focal point on offense.

He's also a baller who is probably never going to fair catch the football, unless obvious. Putting him at even a greater risk.

I know he's the best option at returner, but Bowden isn't too bad either.

Not to mention, after week 1. They probably want to put more of an emphasis on taking advantage of the new "fair catch" rule.

We may still see Shaheed on punts, but they just needed a guy who can field the kickoff well

And if he gets a decent kickoff return, it would probably be called back due to a block in the back!

We really should just fair catch all kickoffs but we'd probably get flagged for blocks to the back on those, too.

Bowden Jr is still a bit raw as a WR but the ability is there he is another 4.38 speed guy like Olave and Shaheed. If the game.slows down for him there's another weapon.

That’s the reality there. Kickoffs are being intentionally targeted by officials to reduce the number of injuries while not officially “eliminating” the kick.

So really on a return the chance of a penalty free return past the 25 is becoming extremely low. So you really just need someone who can field cleanly if the pooch it inside the 10 or who can be wise enough to let it go into the endzone when needed.
