I agree! That’s been the biggest problem with the Saints developing LB’s. They constantly draft LB’s and try to teach them every position in the LB corp and fit them wherever they need them. They end up not being very good at any spot.

Likely, not sure where I saw that Payton had him working at Sam but that potentially means that he and Baun will compete at Will and since we usually ask those guys to learn more than one position the loser will take the snaps at Sam in base which are few and far between.

I'll see if I can locate the article but otherwise I stand corrected.


Edit, Yep - Nick confirms both are competing for will and then the less impressive player (wont say loser) slides elsewhere

Man, at first I thought it was gonna b ez pz with Werner at SAM n Baun at WIL. But then I saw where BOTH were competing at WIL, n got lost, so I’ve been wondering about this for some time. At least, for now, things make a lil more sense.

IMO, it’ll b more than interesting to see what happens with this pair come TC. Both are nearly identical in size. Both played at a high level in the Big 10, are well coached n have a high football IQ. Both seem to do a nice job playing the run. But Zack seems to have more explosiveness n “twitch”, esp coming off the line, n is the more polished pass rusher. Pete is the more “pure” LB, more versatile ( he can play all 3 LB spots) n I think he’s gonna surprise folk with his coverage ability.
But I’m gonna give Zack a bit of a pass as he transitions to a 4-3 LB. No doubt, not having a full offseason last year may have hampered his development. Now, with a year under his belt as a Pro, hopefully, he’ll come into this year’s TC smarter, more aware n better prepared to take on the position.
