Zack Baun signed with the Eagles, 1-year/3.5M (3 Viewers)

Don’t forget Alex Anzalone he’s balling for Detroit.
That was different. Anzalone was made of glass here. Everyone, including everyone on this board, wanted him gone. At least you can understand the reasoning.

Letting Baun go when he cost so little was stupid.

So I'm not defending the organisation, but I am going to point out that this thread seems to have appeared because Baun, a LB, made a pick off a tipped pass. That's his one pick in 8 games.

The last time a Baun thread appeared, it was because he made two sacks in a game. Those are his only two sacks after 8 games.

What I'm saying here is that people have an unhealthy habit of jumping on every little thing an ex-Saint does as evidence we've let a clear cut All Pro leave the building.

Maybe time to calm that down a bit. There's plenty of fuel for our fiery pitchforks, but this ain't it.
hes already got 78 tackles this year and the most sacks hes ever had, so yea, they are putting him in position to succeed

He’s also leading the eagles in tackles with 79, the next closest player has 60. Baun has been arguably their best defensive player this year.
LB Stephone Anthony led the Saints in tackles in his rookie season. It wasn't, as it turned out, all that great a qualifier of his ability.
(Spoiler - he was a dreadful bust)

Additionally, a LB leads an NFL team in tackles the majority of seasons. It doesn't mean there are 32 All Pro LBs.

Just context for the 'woe is me' crowd.

Really makes you wonder if we are really that bad at drafting, or are we that bad at developing and/or figuring out proper roles for our players.
We are terrible about keeping older players!
Our young players like Hendrickson, Elliss & Baun had to go other teams for a starting role...

I mean, it's a two way street. Maybe Baun just saw a better opportunity with Philly since he is a much better fit for there scheme and is likely to get many more snaps?

Willie Gay, Jr. is a pretty big upgrade over Baun as a LB. And Young may be lazy, but he's likely going to get you 7 to 8 sacks even as lazy as he is, and he fits our 4-2-5/4-3 scheme where as Baun was going to get very limited snaps on pass rush only downs. Baun is a better special teamer, but he was likely at best going to get 7-8 sacks too and for the money you add Gay who is a much better LB and can likely play special teams too.

I would have like to keep Baun as a situational pass rusher and special teamer, but I can see the logic behind replacing him with Gay and maybe Young. And it may be that he just had no desire to stay here given that he is not a scheme fit in New Orleans.

As much as you let go a guy that may be an up and comer, you replaced him with a guy who clearly is an up and coming LB. And, Gay may even have some untapped pass rush potential.

Welp. I was clearly wrong about Baun.
