Shut up and Play (1 Viewer)

Applying football to your daily job is pointless. Yes, Football is a job. But these guys get paid to perform or be watched....same as an actor. If you had millions of people cheering or booing you at your job each day, while making the company globally watched on television, you might have more stroke.

If you watch the NFL, you need to shut up about them being overpaid. They're paid that way because so many people are willing to pay to watch em...either with ticket sales or contributing to increased ad revenue.

What does bug me, even when Drew says it, is when they say "We just wanna play football." It's not true. Stop spouting it. You don't wanna give money back. I get it. I wouldn't want to either, but please spare me that line.

Although I agree that the players are the product, I have a problem with them saying we deserve just as much as the owners. Less we forget that it was the owners that went out and spent crazy money(thier own money) to start this leauge. They could have just as easily lost the money. It was the owners who formed the NFL which promotes the leauge and players so they both can make more money. And if you think about it if it weren't for the leauge, football would still be a high school and college game that nobody but the players and maybe thier families would care about. I believe the players are due thier just salaries but to go to the the men who made them what they are and demand to know how much money is being made so we can adjust what we think we're worth is arrogant and dis-respectful. I know that damn near everyone who reads this post at some point wished they made more money, but if your like me you told yourself "I agreed to work for this amount and at the time it was a good deal so I need to stop complaining and get back to work", maybe the players should be as mature as you and do the same. Now I'm sure I will get quite a few neg-reps for this but it is my opinon and just remember that I don't go thru these posts neg-reping everyone who agrees with the players, I respect your opinon.

Call their bluff, let the players in, and forgo a CBA. Unless of course the owners need a CBA. Because the players have said they don't, if they are lying, open the doors and call their bluff. See if they come to work, or stay home waiting for the CBA to be done.

My guess is they all show up to work, and play under their current contracts.

Um. That's flawed logic.

I get that everyone loves football but I actually shake my head with all the TAKING SIDES... I hear it's the players fault cuz they walked out and decertified and it's the owners fault for opting out of the contract and it's the players fault for not responding to the owners offer with a counter offer and it's the owners fault bla bla bla...

The truth of the matter is that this is a business and they're working out a contract... As much as we all love the game, it's still a business and this situation is not different then a strike at a steel plant in LaPlace in the early 90's.... Difference is, nobody followed it on the radio every day all day long and sports center and NFL live and Total Access...

The players deserve whatever they can manage to negotiate but don't expect me to feel sorry for you and the owners deserve and have earned the right to run their business the best way they see fit and make as much money as possible...

if ANY of us were an owner of an NFL team, you would do the exact same thing and if ANY of US were NFL caliber players, we would also be doing the same thing.. I understand the interesting debate but I truly believe some of you guys are way overboard trying to point blame when its simple business and very common...

Um. That's flawed logic.

How so?

Your arguing its a sham, the players want a CBA, its just leverage.

I am saying while a CBA they can agree upon would be nice. The players are ready to forgo the CBA just to get back to work. They have contracts, and money on the line they want to earn. I think the player would go back to work under the terms of their contracts right now, with no CBA in place.

By being a complete sham, your implying they will not, and they really want a CBA.

Owners should call their bluff, open the doors if its a sham, and see if they come to work without a CBA. If they do, let them play. Roll the dice with anti-trust lawsuits later down the road if they arise.

If they don't. Well you have your answer, its a sham and they want a CBA.

Unless of course the owners NEED a CBA. In which case, they should probably bargin seeing as they have more to lose.

Just to be accurate - it's 57.5% of the profits after the first billion.

thats not that greedy on the players. That allows each team to profit 31,250,000.00 mill before they even start sharing them. I don't have any problem with this but didn't Benson buy the team for like 72mill and forbes had them ranked a year or two ago as worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 900mill and he hasn't done anything but boogie! He did spend the money to get the coaches and the players.

I would still be a Saints fan no matter who was in the uniforms.

I was with you up until this remark. If the Saints don't play on opening day, I will no longer be an NFL football fan. They will join Major League Baseball in my ignore list.

I can't believe the players and owners would foul their own nest, and hurt their loyal fans in the process. If that's what they're about, they can do it without me.

And your not supposed to take a crap where you eat so to speak. It kinda feels like thats what they are doing.
