Shut up and Play (1 Viewer)

Hey, like I said, I don't know everything, that's just the way I understood it. If I was wrong, so be it. :idunno:

On the other hand, I've never seen this 11 billion number thrown out there, only the 9 billion one. When did the other 2 bills come about?

But here is what the owners are proposing:
NFL makes 9 billion.
NFL keeps 1 billion off the top, before paying out percentages of profit to the players. Leaving 8 billion to split as they agreed.
NFL now makes 11 billion and keeps 2 billion, leaving 9 billion for the players instead of 8....NO PAY CUT!

Ok... But... Do all of the players also profit from that 56% (or whatever) split of the remaining profit? Or is that money managed in some other way?

I'm serious, I just don't know this part of it...

But, if they all do profit from the shared percentage, then it looks like you're only arguing semantics.
(ie - "They've never been asked to take a salary cut", but their salary is not their only income from the league.

I guess, if that's the case... Hmmm...

Let's say I offered you a job to paint a painting, and told you I'd pay you a $1000 salary to do it, and share 50% of the profits with you after the sale. The painting sells for $1000. I walk up to you and hand you $1200. $1000 salary for the painting, and $200 after the sale explaining that "I had extra costs that I had to pay towards advertising and such."

(I know this isn't an exact representation or anything, but it's the best I could come up with....)

So, would you be upset?
Would you question me about the situation?
Would you ask me to prove my 'extra costs' to justify not giving you what you thought we agreed on?

If so... Why? It's not like I cut your salary or anything.....

See what I'm getting at?

The players individual yearly salaries are directly tied to the salary cap. Period. There is one large pie(salary cap) for all 53 players and it gets split into many different sized pieces.

NEVER ONCE HAS THE SIZE OF THE PIE BEEN REDUCED IN A PROPOSAL. THE PIE WAS ACTUALLY INCREASED IN THE OWNERS PROPOSAL AND THE PIE WOULD CONTINUE TO INCREASE EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

There is no way around this simple fact, the players have never been asked to take a pay cut. Everything else is just semantics.

The players arguement is not valid.

During playoff games $25k is enough to get them to play...

Limited careers? a lot of Players make more in a year then I will make in my whole life and even at league minimum and a shortened career almost all players make more in an NFL career than I will in 2 life times.

Does the average Joe or Jane making 25k a year risk less? Putting in tireless overtime in a factory just to buy a ticket or turn on a TV to watch them play? I have no weight room...I have no one to rub my feet or back after a long day at work...I have no staff doctor or nutritionist to keep me fit...My work day is 8 to 12 hours 6 days a week with 15 minutes breaks after ever 4 hours of work (compared to 15 minutes at a time for four quarters of which there are TV time outs and players only play offense or defense which is only 30 minutes a game on average)... I have no house keeper to keep my kids...

You don't like your life? Trade Ya...Come be me a while and see how far you get when you go tell the boss, I want 57.5% of the profits...You'll get a big boot in the rear and join the other 10% of Americans without jobs...

I don't feel sorry for you!!!

!!!SHUT UP AND PLAY!!!

Everything you just whined about with the players goes 1000 fold for owners. They make MORE than the players. They DONT have a limited career.

Yet you blame the players, not the owners?

What?

THE PLAYERS OFFERED TO KEEP THE OLD CBA. It is the OWNERS who are trying to grab MORE money. Yet you dont tell the owners to shut up and let the players play???

I'm sick of these owner defenses that are basically "I am jealous of the players."

Basically, the owners proverbially punched the players in face by locking them out and quitting the CBA. I laugh at all of you who essentially say to the players, "shut up, take your punch and don't fight back. The owners have the right to punch you."

Good ole lovely authoritarianism.

I would still be a Saints fan no matter who was in the uniforms.
I always wonder every time I see this. Not going to happen, but imagine that Trump, Cuban and others buy into the idea of expanding the UFL to 20 teams, the NFLPA renames itself to thp PFPA and all the current NFL talent and top draftees sign on and start playing. Unlike the USFL, more than Herschel Walker, Steve Young and Jim Kelly dabble in it. They sign huge network contracts with 6 year deals, making it unlikely that the NFL can get them too for scabs. Are you still watching the current Arena League guys play other Arena League guys in 4 years, or are you watching the top talent play in the new league?

Again, it's not gonna happen, and we watch our team when it suffers defeat within the context of being drawn from the best talent in the world. I'm not sure I'd keep watching the Saints regularly if after 4-5 years they were still getting guys that didn't even start in college.

I get that everyone loves football but I actually shake my head with all the TAKING SIDES... I hear it's the players fault cuz they walked out and decertified and it's the owners fault for opting out of the contract and it's the players fault for not responding to the owners offer with a counter offer and it's the owners fault bla bla bla...

The truth of the matter is that this is a business and they're working out a contract... As much as we all love the game, it's still a business and this situation is not different then a strike at a steel plant in LaPlace in the early 90's.... Difference is, nobody followed it on the radio every day all day long and sports center and NFL live and Total Access...

The players deserve whatever they can manage to negotiate but don't expect me to feel sorry for you and the owners deserve and have earned the right to run their business the best way they see fit and make as much money as possible...

if ANY of us were an owner of an NFL team, you would do the exact same thing and if ANY of US were NFL caliber players, we would also be doing the same thing.. I understand the interesting debate but I truly believe some of you guys are way overboard trying to point blame when its simple business and very common...

We take sides because the arguments of both sides are visible. Nobody knows much about or cares about the cba for post office or municipal gov't workers.

It also isn't about a bunch of libs on the players side and conservatives for the owners. I know a large number of people that are on the players side for the NFL dispute, are on the owners side in the NBA.

!!!SHUT UP AND PLAY!!!

The NFL's propaganda machine has won over the weak minds I see. The players are not asking for more, the NFL is. The players did not go to the NFL asking for more than what they already receive, the NFL is asking them to take a pay cut. Its pretty simple really, Im not sure how so many could be confused by it. And if you really think ALL players in the NFL will make more in their career than you will in your life, you either dont pay attention to what some of the lowest paid players make for the 3 or 4 years they are in the league, or you work the counter at 7-11. :idunno:

There was a previous post about the owners going out and paying crazy money.
Well they did just but just a fraction of what they are worth now.
The average price that current owners have paid for their teams is around the 100 Million range. Now they are worth 8 to 11 times that amount.

Another post compared the players to Actors. This is a fare comparison.
There is one difference though. They are like actors of years gone by.
Actors used to sign with 1 studio and they were locked in to that studio.
Now days Actors change studios if they want pretty easily.
Players don't have that advantage and thankfully so.
Parity would be ruined.

Like has been said before revenue sharing is broken and they want the players to pick up the slack.

They just need to get it done. All of them.

Hmm, how do they go from making 9 Billion to 11 Billion?
Last year they made 9 Billion dollars, the most they have ever made. While I'm sure it'll go up next year if they stop the lockout, it's not going up to 11 Billion.

Like someone said, this is all about greed with these owners. Some players may be considering settling with these owners, because their funds are getting low.

And the thing is, the players were willing to discuss taking a paycut if the owners were willing to show that it was needed to keep smaller market teams afloat.

The owners refuse to show proof to the players that it's needed.

And before someone comes in and starts the stupid argument that they don't show their tax forms to their babysitter if they want to change their salary, don't even start.

The players are partners with the owners and together they form the NFL. Silent partners true for the most part, but partners all the same. They're partners because that's what allows the NFL to skirt around those pesky Anti-Trust issues. If you wanted to change the amount of money your business partner gets from your joint business, he would be well within his rights to see the books before agreeing.

Not that I don't think both sides need to be willing to compromise, I'm simply stating that it is not purely the players that are at fault here.

I think I would still watch the Saints, but I would certainly be tuning into the new league as well.

And if the new league would start showing that it's all about the fan's instead of being about the owners, players, or profits that could lock me in as a fan.

I love football though, much more then I ever enjoyed Baseball or Hockey. I was able to easily abandon following those two sports after their lockout troubles and I haven't looked back.

For all of you that started your post with insults, you wasted your time. For those of you that put logic and thought into your posts, I appeciate and enjoyed your posts no matter which side you pull for.

I would like to add if the players practiced what they preach about revenue sharing and cared so much about each other then why don't they revenue share with each other. The big money players are the main ones to benefit for any agreement not the players as a whole.

The players are not responsible for any of the renovations or the new stadiums that get built. The owners and the State/City sucks up those cost. They all make their money I just wish they would play ball. I am ready for some SAINTS FOOTBALL!!!!!
