Now this is rather an interesting venture." Drago's seafood restaurant will open its first location outside New Orleans in Jackson, MS.

The company will reveal details during a press conference on Friday, but the location will be adjacent to the Hilton on County Line Road in the old Huntington's Grille. Opening is scheduled for October."

Lord knows that city needs something!

Actually, Jackson has some pretty good restaurants given the size of the city and the average income levels.

Not that I won't be welcoming Drago's with open arms and be seen dining there frequently. Whether or not they can maintain the same standards in a city that has been stripped of quality employees by Nissan and it's partners is a different stories. If they can maintain the quality, freshness and price it will do very well.

The location, with some added curb appeal can't be much better.

The only thing on Drago's menu that is reasonably good, imo, are the chargrilled oysters. That is the only thing I get there after trying several entrees.

They do a few things well. The stuffed lobster is pretty damn good and pretty reasonably priced. For the most part I agree but those Chargrilled Oysters are all they need to be great.

Afterall, not eating chargrilled oysters at Drago's would be like going to Krispy Creme for a salad.

I pretty much agree with this, and their quality control on the oyster grilling is somewhat erratic. There are other places (not necessarily in Jackson, of course) that do them better.

They do usually get great oysters, though.

I agree, I have run into that from time to time. But when they are on, they are spot on.

And never ever ever make the mistake of standing in line at some festival stand for them. that is when their quality control drops through the floor.

i've had a few oysters not cleaned very well in the hilton location, but i've had a good run in fat city on some tasty oysters. the fried gator is good and it hasn't been tough when i've had it, but i'm not overly impressed by anything else i've had. still, worth going for just the oysters.

huh...who knew Dragos had an actual menu.

If it aint char-grilled oysters, i aint goin.

I dont recall one bad serving from them though. ( However, ive never tried them at any festival/fairs)

I'm sure they have it figured it out, but with it being run by family, I have a hard time imagining the owners stopping by much.

That's part of the charm.

You can add me to the list on the hit or miss nature of their preparation of the oysters.

On the other hand, I had some wood fired oysters with chili garlic butter at Cochon the other day and boy, let me tell you, best thing I've eaten in I don't know how long.
