N/S Carpenter's wife message for Richard Sherman (1 Viewer)

Why....Just because she is white? Miko Grimes said some stupid things on twitter about some players. I interpreted as both wives saying dumb things. We all say dumb things. But "assuming" it is "racist" is in itself immature. All women at one point say they want to "castrate" a man. Just because this time it happens to be a white person saying that to a man who happens to be black is deem racist? What is the rule here? What is not deem racist these days?

It wasn't just one thing it was the totality of everything she said. That play didn't warrant that type of response she had. First she talked about Sherman with all of this rage. Based on the play, I saw a man jump offside and continue going because the play continued and Buffalo still kicked the ball. She could have called him reckless, said he should be fined, suspended, kicked out of the league or something. Football is a violent sport, but yet you call him out as full of rage, state "if you act like an animal you should be treated as one", and then the castration portion. Where did she even get all of this from on a simple offside play. She put this into her on descriptive words and if you choose to believe she would have described it that way about a non- African American player then this is where the lens through which we view this incident differentiates. Her way of describing how she viewed Sherman and the proper way to handle him is just too reminiscent of how slaves were described, viewed, and treated. Her cavalier usage of language that has long been applied to Black men in this country, characterizing them as less than human entities that should be feared, can be brushed off as a bad choice of words, but excuse me for me assuming I know how this movie ends, because I'm almost positive that I read the book!

but it is another to immediately jump to what could be one of the most vile things that could be done to an animal much less another human being.

Maybe it's just the ladies I've dated and married, and most were, and my wife is, awesome. Have no idea why they liked me.

There's an age old axiom though, "Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman." I would extend that to a woman whose husband or children are threatened. I think it makes them special. They protect the home at all costs and it makes for some heated inter-changes afterwards. And like most ladies I know, once they blow and achieve their goal, they let it go.

Social media makes this dynamic more public. If I was married to her, I would know she's got my back covered. And I think that's cool. For my job I would likely ask her to think twice in the future, but what good woman really listens to her man :mwink:

I guess this is the new political correctness.
----

I hate political correctness. I think it takes the character out of us. I think political correctness is abused. I think good hearted people are good hearted people - period! But I also think political correctness is a necessary means to reduce discrimination in our society and that is an issue that truly needs to be addressed.

I got back from U of Alabama last week on business. On the surface, it all looks cool, very deep South. But scratch the surface and there is a ton of deep and old racial tension. I like to go to micro brew pubs when I travel and get to know the natives on their own terms and loose lipped. The great majority of people I met in Tuscaloosa were really wonderful, considerate and funny.

But at a different level, there's still a small, but powerful portion of whites who deeply miss the old Confederate and George Wallace days. To me it seems so ironic and bizarre. Many of these love their Bama football team, but how do they reconcile that the great majority of Bama's super athletes are black.

We people are an interesting species. Going to Mars anyone???

Her apology raises more eyebrows. In an obvious fit of rage she's now saying it was an attempt at humor.

Def not buying it and Sherman is right to call BS on it. I went from benefit of the doubt to there is something off about that apology. It's one thing for people to find it funny but to say you were trying to be funny makes it worse but hey..she's got the smart people defending her

Richard Sherman calls apology from Carpenter

While I would like it to have been swimmers suggestion it's becoming increasingly hard to ignore she knew exactly what she was saying and it wasn't some form of misguided protective rage.

Miko was giving a compliment saying Jews watch out for each other.she worded it terribly and even in her response she said that's what she meant....this woman threatened to castrate a man..then said that threat was an attempt at humor. how can you even compare them?. Miko didn't threaten violence like..cmon man seriously?!!

Im getting irked all over again and my diplomatic side is about to take a back seat to my aggressive side.

During the early 1900's a lot of men of Eastern European descent who were convicted of crimes were castrated as part of America's eugenics programs to genetically weed out the "criminal" genes. So there's a lot of history around castration.

I grew up on a farm and helped steer young bulls using the rubber bands. Steers grow up extremely docile as a result. I think she was clearly being metaphorical and not literal, but that was just my take on it due to my personal experience. She went overboard in an emotional response to Sherman going overboard.

Well I know it happened to black men from the at least the 1600s all the way until the ~1940s. I know eastern europeans, Irish, and Italians felt the wrath of this country for short periods relatively speaking, but I have to question if this treatment compares to the 300+ years of this type of treatment when it comes to black men. There is a book called "100 Years of Lynchings" where all it does it reprint newspaper articles of actual lynching stories from around the county. And there are a couple of them about Italian/Irish. But 95% of the 250 pages are about black people (men & women, sometimes very young) being lynched/castrated/mutilated. So, for this woman to make that statement is going to strike a chord with some folks. There is simply no way around it.

On the other hand, why is stuff like this allowed in ice hockey?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIlLbJHKw8M

If that happens in football or basketball there will be non-stop media talk and multiple game suspensions. Do ice hockey players get called "animals" and "thugs" and have wives threaten to chop off their acorns? Honest question, what is the purpose of the very lax attitude about fighting and rough play in ice hockey? What purpose does it serve?

You are welcome to feel that way sir. Yet there would be nothing to assume if the statement wasn't made so again..calling the people who are put in a position to interpret or assume anything stupid does nothing..perhaps the person who said it is really the stupid one. You don't know what she meant either so you are blindly assuming as well. What exactly does that make you?

Regards,

Ps..i green thumbed you because I don't have an issue with disagreeing on opinion.

I took her words as an emotional response for a foul play against her husband.

this sounds like it would be fun to unpack
can you tell us who the REAL victims are?

I would be interested to know who these REAL victims are myself !!
You really need to be told what racism is?

Or this

I hate political correctness. I think it takes the character out of us. I think political correctness is abused. I think good hearted people are good hearted people - period! But I also think political correctness is a necessary means to reduce discrimination in our society and that is an issue that truly needs to be addressed.

I do not think it reduces anything, but create frustration and target those who are not actually racists at all.

It is interesting you chose a southern location. Perhaps this is the extent of your experiences. I lived in Chicago and met a lot of racists people.

Well this past week on the WWE Smackdown which took place in Scotland one of the new Wwe stars named James Ellsworth showed up, John Bradshaw Layfield(JBL) was like " what he doing here, i thought they didnt let animals through customs" . This James Ellsworth guy may be the most whitest person ever.

No one is taking it personal, I simply stated that I felt that there was malice behind her statement. I was born and raised in Mississippi and I have been all over the world, me stating that I believe her comments were intentionally racist doesn't mean I'm going to boycott a Bills game or march outside of their house. My point I was making was too many in this thread completely disregarded her statements as nothing but words and I tried to tell you guys there will be more than just us that have a problem with her words. They are running a story on ESPN right now about it and she issued some garbage apology. Maybe after hearing a couple of different angles of this story some of you will realize that there was probably more to it than her just spouting angry words defending her husband. If this bares itself to be racist, as I believe, maybe you should ask yourself why you don't care more about hateful language like this that is so casually thrown around!
when you say completely disregarded, garbage apology... what she said sounds like you are taking it personal...Why let it bother you?....she wasn't even talking about......YOU...as in somebody else..a single person.why let something anger you and make you miserable when it wasn't directed to you...I don't get mad at black comedians make fun of white people while doing stand up comedy or in movies...I'd be miserable and consumed by anger if I did.

he adds in post #92...

anyway, we know that Sherman is not just any (black) player - this is the opinionated, Stanford educated player who had the THUG term hurled at him
- there was discussion

he's a lightning rod like Tebow is a lightning rob

but i'm sure you knew that
...

let's bring this down and take the violent imagery and the particular player out of the discussion
let's say Ms Carpenter just saw Idris Elba in the new James Bond movie (right??) - let's say she comes back from that movie and is all "OMG Idris ism SO well spoken"
k, maybe she actually has no idea about the history of that phrase
we can assume that she's not picking up her phone and thinking "hm, let me think of a really racist compliment i can give that fine man"
so sure, she's not giving direct frontal lobe intention to her writing
but the phrase got into her somehow and came out of her some way

maybe in this time where bright lights are shined on race relations and language and media, et al she didn't realize that there is an abundant history of abusive language, actions and portrayals
but the phrase got into her somehow and came out of her some way
geeze..my head hurts trying to even interpret that....what does that even remotely have to do what i said?

...getting/staying mad at something because of what happened THEN and being mad at something that wasn't directed at you.being mad over the past.. that's just a recipe for a miserable life

Amazing how this thread still hasn't gotten locked yet! I guess someone has to drop a few F-Bombs to nuke this thread. :(

Forget it man. These are the same people that voted a racist into the White House and are telling us to just give the man a chance while mocking people that are upset about it.

I suggest just bowing out of this thread. You will never win - WE will never win.

Beautiful example here. Well done.
