Sean Payton!!! It is your duty as Head Coach to FIRE Greg McMahon!!! (1 Viewer)

Who I believe is still coaching.

He invented

1st down run right for 2 yards
2nd run left for a yard
3rd down throw for 4
Punt

Rick Venturi comes to mind on the defense

And don't forget the draw play anytime that it was 3rd down and more than 10 yards.

The coverage units seem to be doing alright, but FG's & PAT's, punt & KO returns are a disaster. And are things improving? No. It sure seems to me McMahon has grown lackadaisical in his duties and the other teams are just working us over. It's past embarrassing and someone needs to take responsibility for it. We need a fresh pair of eyes and a new attitude on ST's!

I doubt it happens till the end of the season. Everyone on this team seems to have a free pass this year because we had a couple injuries to begin the year. Oh and we are playing with 40 million in dead money.

I have never seen a special teams like this in my life.

Opposing teams are batting 1000 jumping our line. Yes that's right every time they try it it works. This is a play that should rarely work or at best occasionally give you a block or turnover. It is working against us EVERY single time and multiple times in the SAME game just couple weeks ago. Let that sink in some. This is unheard of, never ever seen it. Only our Special teams, only ours

The blocks in consecutive weeks is another thing that just doesn't happen to any other team in the league in history. Yes history. Even Brees was outspoken about the special teams saying it's two weeks in a row and the results are catastrophic. The reasons for this are multiple.
We cant block anyone in the middle of the line, our kicker kicks the ball with the lowest trajectory I have ever seen for a kicker. As a rookie I like this kid, but what the hell are they teaching him in practice???????? McMahon isn't catching it in practice, he is not making adjustments for mistakes that are killing us in week after week, and the returners are totally unprepared, can't catch most time and trying to field the stupidest kickoffs ever.
How do you not see the ball is going out of bounds and we get the ball at the 40?

This is an absolute joke and embarrassment at this point

If McMahon isn't fired this week then he will never get fired even if he sleeps with Payton's wife/gf. And no it's now about not having good players on ST it's about coaching. Just look at the defense who are starting to play very well and a lot of these players are either young or unknowns. Instead of watching improvements on ST we see them play worse and worse and not only this year.

all those blocks aren't on the kicker, last week's block wasn't on him, the line collapsed on the right side and they got it this week

We routinely struggle kicking FG's. We routinely struggle covering kicks. We routinely struggle returning kicks. We almost never force turnovers. We rarely ever get blocks or big returns. We routinely allow blocks and big returns. We get a lot of penalties on special teams.

We were coming off of our 3rd game that we lost due to special teams this season and we follow it up with a roughing the kicker on a short FG, fielding a punt that was going out of bounds at the 1 yard line, offsides on a kickoff, have a block in the back penalty on a return, have a holding on a return, waste 10 seconds on a punt return when there are 26 seconds left in the game and most importantly have a FG blocked and returned for a near TD.

In one game, that is 170 yards of lost hidden yardage. That's the equivalent of half the offense of the average team in the NFL. It's pathetic.

It's brutally bad and getting worse every single week.

Mathematical Formula:

First add....
Special Teams + Greg McMahon = Performance

Then divide...
Performance / Production = Mistakes

Then multiply...
Mistakes X Per Game = Disaster

And finally subtract....
Disaster - Position Coach = Termination of Contract

Rinse & Repeat for Bill Johnson and Joe Vitt...

im pretty sure someone did this last week (or was it 2 weeks ago). someone caught the kickoff going out around the 10 yard line.

Yep, Cadet did.

The smart play in either instance would have been for the player to stick one foot out of bounds and then catch it, assuring that it would be ruled a kickoff out of bounds. But something tells me those finer points aren't being taught to this unit.

And thats where its simply coaching. ( lack there of )

3 weeks ago we had a kick off return and the returner went to field the ball that was going out of bounds...same result. NOT 3 WEEKS LATER, THE SAME mistake by the SAME Returner????? Sorry...thats coaching.

So we force them to punt...arguably the most important return of the night, and there is a penalty???? Coaching...again.

I get that players tend to do things unscripted at times. Improvise.

But players that are WELL COACHED, understand situational football and do not make the mistakes ( repeatedly ) that we make. They just dont.

And while i understand football is a team sport, there are members of both offense and defense that are flat out TIRED of having games lost because of Special Teams. There is nothing more demoralizing than to have laid it all out there, only to have it thrown back in your face because a !@#@#@# Coach CANNOT do HIS JOB.

Payton knows this. He knows the pulse of his team. He has a very short window to make a change or lose the group altogether.

We won the Super Bowl in 2009. We are always in the top 5 in offense.

It would be hard for me to believe Payton's fingers have not been on the ST. He's part of it. I think he owns the decision to do this silly rotation of KO and P returners rather than find and stick with a skilled return man for EACH which is what most of the rest of the football world does.

And of course the PK position. McMahon doesn't own that. Payton owns that. Despite the putrid track record he makes the PK decisions. All roads lead to Rome on the big decisions.

McMahon fails to teach, coach up and develop smart situationally aware players but I'm shocked if he's not making any decisions Payton doesn't share.

Great post. Add to that the revolving door as returners on kick offs and punts. What is with that. Is there really no Beerman on the streets that can catch, run fast and play as our 5th wr. What is with the Tommy Lee project and the Marcus Murphy project. Do we think that their play can be groomed into contributing players next year. Or is it really out of necessity .. . . . I just don't understand this. It has to be the revolving door with the injuries. From week to week we have guys playing different positions, but other teams do well with this. Last night when the Kitties center was hurt I thought that would be our time, we'd make turnovers, big plays, but know they truck right along. Same can be said with the Kuchely injury.

This is utterly ridiculous...This team will surely set a record for blocked kicks in a season if McMahon is allowed to keep his job!!! I know it was a short week but how to you allow the thing that just beat you last week to bite you yet again!!! This is already the 3rd game that a blocked kick has cost this team in a game...and let's not forget all the other Special Teams blunders that have occurred also. Bottom line is if McMahon isn't fired tomorrow then he's the luckiest guy in America to the point where he should play the Powerball because that kind of luck doesn't find normal people like myself..

I'm with ya on the record...if we haven't set one already?!

We have now lost 6 games; 5 of them by 6 or less points; 4 of them by 3 or less points. Of those 4 games, 3 were the result of a blocked kick, returned for a score!

Coaches go entire careers without achieving that....some franchises still haven't experienced that in their historical existence. And yet we have accomplished this in only 10 games?! SMDH...

I have proposed before, half tongue in cheek but half serious, to just cut the kicker. That was before we got Lutz, who I have no problem with...but the kicking team in front of him ain't cutting it! So for this reason (and not the kicker, like I suggested before), I will again suggest to always go for the TD, always go for the 2pt conversion...statistics show odds of success higher than 50-50...and with those odds, we will score more points. If we had already been doing this, we're likely 8-2, possibly 9-1?! Legatron can handle kickoffs. Problem solved...we finish out 6-0, win division at 10-6 and hit the playoffs!

Don't fire him yet, let him keep his job until the season is done (which it's done right now) , we're sure to get a better draft order if he keeps his job.
