Matt McCoy the eagles starting WLB last year before they traded for Takeo Spikes was released. As a starter last year he had a good year with 60 tackles and 2 sacks in 10 starts. He is undersized at 5'11" 235lbs. but the Saints are beggars when it comes to LBs.


Should the saints put in a waiver claim for him?

IMO he would be a decent back up, I don't think he would be better than anyone we already have.

We've already tried an Eagle 06 starting linebacker (Dhani Jones). "Started at LB for the Eagles" isn't really a compelling item on your resume.

Beyond which, i'm happy with our backups, it's the starters I wouldn't mind improving.

I heard a report that Shanle hurt his hammy. I was not able to see the game and I did not see it posted (did not look far either). Any status on that if true? I guess Simmons or Evans would replace him.

I'd pass on this guy... He seems to have an attitude problem, and he couldn't hang onto his job in the first place.

LB is a need for us, but I think we'll wait until the offseason to fix things. Simoneau is a FA after this season... So hopefully he'll be replaced.

It'd be awesome if we made a move for Vilma next offseason, but I'm not gonna hold my breathe.

Anyway, how great would it be if our LBs looked like this next year...

SLB - Scott Fujita
MLB - Jonathon Vilma
WLB - Dan Conner, Keith Rivers, or Ali Highsmith.

The Saints are expected to sign free agent LB Matt McCoy next week.
The 2005 second-round pick had a tryout for the Panthers recently, but they let him leave without a contract and he agreed with New Orleans. To consider McCoy, the Saints may be worried Scott Shanle's ankle injury will linger.

I can't really give an opinion til I see him make a play for us. However, there had to be a reason we signed him...
