Brees Injury Diagnosis MERGED (UPDATE: Drew expected to have surgery on torn ligament - out 6 weeks) (1 Viewer)

No, it’s not. Not with a torn ligament in the hand. 4 is not even slightly possible. It will be AT MINIMUM 6. Which is still so much better than we thought.
Yet Chris Paul and Mike Trout, with the same injury, same surgery and same surgeon were only out 5-6 weeks.

I'm going with 6 to 8 weeks just for my own mental timetable.
His absence will most certainly reveal the kind of team that we really have.
If they aren't ready to take up the slack while Drew heals, we may not have had the team character that we thought. But I believe the guys will answer the call and prepare for the games without Brees' help. We can do this! We WILL do this!

Dr. Chin must be doing the surgery. He does an anchored procedure that shortens the recovery time.
That's what it looks like. Especially with the success he had with Chris Paul and Mike Trout with the same injury and procedure. He's apparently the go-to surgeon for this injury.

I am very hesitant on this but will. Just talked to Coach Pete who said after I pushed on him multiple times.....

"Brees is Gone for the year. Maybe, just maybe with Brees amazing dedication to recovery, he may be back this year, but recovery from a serious injury will be slowed down by his age. That area of the hand is essential to accuracy and ball speed. If the report that is saying there are torn ligaments is accurate, it's bad news and Bridgewater is not good enough to lead us to to the playoffs."

Coach Pete said he has Insider and can likely get the full scoop on Brees in a few days. He wants to wait until then before he states an official opinion.

Sorry, but I'm buying Dr. Chin's success with the same injury on Chris Paul and Mike Trout and their recovery being less than 6 weeks over whoever Coach Pete is talking to. The proof is already in the pudding.

Inside - he didn't want to state an opinion until he gets to his internal sources. I pushed on him heavily. Interesting he said that steroids could cut recovery time in half. Would the NFL dare to test Brees after recovery?

It was. It got merged.

Sigh. Lol.

Well, I can tell y’all it’s been a point of emphasis by Andrus to not merge significant developments for years but modding is inexact, especially in heavy traffic occasions.

In the case of Chris Paul, wasn't he a lot younger when that happened? Serious question. I don't know because I really don't follow basketball.

We all want it to be a shorter time frame. Even though Drew is in great shape, he's still 40. I hope it's sooner rather than later, but we also have to be realistic.
I think Chris Paul was 33. He was back 6 weeks after the injury. Which would be the equivalent of Brees missing the next 5 games and being back for AZ. I'm sure age matters, but Brees has defied the odds before.

It's been done before. Have you done much research on SutureTape and InternalBrace? Makes a huge difference is when players are returning to play. And it's what we thought all along. Not better or worse.

Well, before the diagnosis officially came out, I had best case scenario 4 weeks, worst case scenario out for the season---so I'm definitely on the happier side.

As it's been said before, now it's on Payton & the coaches to get a game plan ready for TB & play to his strengths. I know what we saw in preseason & yesterday was not good, but I think the offense was sort of shell shocked after the injury yesterday & played like zombies for the most part. Combine that with TB looking unprepared & going against one of the best D lines in the league--you end up with what you had yesterday. A week of practice with the 1's should help. I'm really hoping that they sign another backup QB & let Taysom start doing his thing again

0 chance lol. Not with a torn ligament man. It’s much more likely that he’s out 8-10 than 4. I love the optimism though. I think he comes back the week after the bye.
I liked your post only as a co-sign .,. not that it's good that Brees is hurt. Don't want to assume that that's understood.

...

Yeah, this injury is not something you tough out, train harder for, eat better for, or anything like that. It takes as long as it takes.

Unfortunately this is true. You can't speed up soft tissue and scarring down of the repair. Radial and ulnar collateral ligament repairs are what provide stability to the MCP of the thumb. This is not a repair u want to have to fix twice. Throwing a football and a baseball are two different animals, and baseball players don't take the risk of hitting their thumb on an opposing player during a throw

How about gripping and shooting a basketball?

Drew has done nothing but defy the odds his entire life. He'll follow the surgeon's rehab instructions to a T and be back as soon as humanly (or super-humanly) possible.

And I wouldn't be surprised if when Drew comes back, he plays with some sort of Kevlar glove on his throwing hand. It'll be something he has to get used to, but would protect him from any further injury. Other QB's have done it after hand injuries.
