RUN. THE. BALL. (3 Viewers)

19 carries at 6 yards a pop???? That is a dismal coaching failure by SP....we should have run it 30-35 times. With a 10 point lead and the ball another long drive running the ball down their throat would have demoralized the Raider defense....instead, SP decides to throw instead....he really needs to evaluate his poor decision making and make some adjustments....
After this many years of doing the same thing, do you really think he will?

very impressive

That’s exactly why you run the ball. 112 yards divided by 19 carries = 5.8 yards per carry. You keep doing that and burning the clock, giving your defense time to catch their breaths until the opposing defense stops it. I love Payton but dang he is stubborn as can be when it comes to sticking with the Run game when it’s working!

We have that many yards per carry because of when we do run. You are just assuming that you get the same average if you run the ball all the time but that's not the case. You can't just assume that you will get 6 yards per carry every time. If that was the case, they should never throw the ball and just run on every down, but we all know that wouldn't work.

But the bigger issue in this game is that we had to score fast because the defense was giving up 10 play drives for TDs almost every time the Raiders touched the ball after the first quarter. They certainly were in the second half. And, because of all the penalties, we were in down and distances where running the ball does you no good. Anyway, on the last two possessions the Saints had running wasn't much of an option since in both situations, they needed two TDs with less than 5 minutes to go. You have to throw the ball almost every down in those situations. Payton should run the ball more in some games, but this wasn't one of those games.

I do understand that not every carry goes for 5+ yards, I have watched Football before. Even when they were down, the Raiders still ran the ball consistently and we stopped them for 0 or negative yards quite a few times. Running the ball controls the clock and when your defense is having to defend 10+ play drives consistently they need the break. We were up 10-0 after the first quarter and still tied at half, absolutely no reason to go air raid! I understand throwing it in the last 5 minutes of the game, that's obvious but tied or only down one TD doesn't mean we have throw every play.

I love Drew as much as anyone here and hope he can continue to pad his stats, but at some point we need to be more balanced and Payton needs to learn to ride the Hot Hand. Strong running games preserve QB's and allow them more options on passing downs.

I couldn't agree more. Give the D a chance to catch their breath.

You don't stop running the ball because you're losing TOP. You lose TOP because you stop running the ball. The Saints ran 11 times in their first two drives. They ran eight times the rest of the game. Even when they were up 10-0 Payton either insisted on throwing the ball or Brees insisted on killing run plays for pass plays. We'll never know exactly which it was but we know both have a history of doing those things.

We'll eventually stick with the run. As soon as we go up against the best run defense on our schedule. It's coming.

Alvin getting body rocked in the backfield all day. The chain gang twiddling their thumbs as we keep running into a brick wall. Y'all know it's coming.

I think this has been one of the biggest problems the last couple of years, why Payton doesn't get this is beyond me esp now when you can clearly see Drew is off. Plus, here's what Drew and Payton do, to prove to people that they know best and Drew isn't off, there will be more throws instead of doing what works and running to produce more wins for the team.

It's not a good method at all and it has prevented us from going back to the SB for sure.

bro I tottalllllllly agree

You can’t run the ball when you’re trying to catch up and the opposing team isn’t getting stopped. There was no choice but to throw the ball the entire 2nd half
