N/S Cowboys keeping Mike McCarthy for 2022 season (1 Viewer)

This just feels like it was a big setup. Sean steps down so he leaves us in good graces and takes a broadcasting job for a season then no matter how the season ends up for Dallas unless they win the super bowl Sean is the new head coach. I hope that doesn’t happen because I don’t want that kind of hate in my life.

You know there is no guarantee that if he does, that he will be successful. And he knows that. This is not a show up and win kind of league. The stars will have to align for him to join any franchise.

Sean is on record saying that he can see himself coaching in the future. I'm leaning toward him keeping his word and eventually taking a head coaching job.
Fair. But also to be fair, Sean said that because he did not want to say he won't ever coach again and then come back and get criticized for it. He did not close the door on coaching but it was not a definitive I'll coach again.

Payton has literally been openly asking to get a TV gig. It seemed pretty obvious he wants to give TV a shot before he decides if he wants to coach again. Then again the squirrels will read what they want to read.

I think it’s fair to say that he’ll coach again. Most coaches do go for a second stint before they really retire.
I do think Cowboys fans are getting ahead of themselves by proclaiming Payton the coach for the 2023 Cowboys. Another team, possibly from the AFC could get him.

This is what’s going to happen.

Jerry Jones will fire whoever Payton calls out in less than 5 minutes, if he joins the Cowboys.

Question for me is, if Jones will still be around when Payton wants to go back to coaching.

If not Jerry, Stephen will, but I don’t think that’s an upgrade.

Of course they kept McCarthy.

Really, if you were Payton, how would that make you (Payton) look if you already said on air that you’re stepping away and then immediately after being traded to Dallas right now, and you’re back to coaching for a new team next season? That would mean, you had talks and approved of the trade prior to the trade, right?

Lol just think about it. That would make no logical sense to his image

He’s gone after wildcard weekend exit next year.

Payton’s there mid January 2023.
Really, why Dallas? Sean will have his pick of teams to coach. Why do you guys believe that just because Jerry is obsessed with Sean, that Sean would view the Dallas job as attractive.

Did you guys miss how Parcels was treated on the way out of Dallas. When Jerry set his sights on Sean as coach, it was to late. Sean can go where ever he wants, why would he want to spend his last coaching years w/ Jerry's loosing a$$. Jerry needs Sean, Sean doesn't need Jerry.

If this was beyond just only crazy no chance in hell rumors, then Undisputed wouldn’t have aired about this report either.

This is my thinking too. Payton already had one foot out the door and the Saints changed their mind. It’s not implausible to think it’ll be second time lucky for Dallas.

LA Chargers with Justin Herbert I could see.

You mean to tell me you are going with a Mike Florio article, and the word of a guy (I have never herd of), who is trying to sell books!!!!!!!!!!! Sean was going to leave Drew to coach at Dallas, or perhaps Sean does this right before a contract negotiation as leverage with New Orleans.

What follows comes from my new book, Playmakers: How the NFL Really Works (And Doesn’t). The essay from which it’s drawn can be found there, if/when you purchase the book.
