oww Yao - Ming, done for the year (1 Viewer)

Houston, we have a problem.

In the ultra-tight Western Conference, this might be the difference in Houston being a playoff team or a lottery team.

Your wrong I don't see any drop off what so ever going from Yao to 57 year old Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo. None.

Good one. This should make it easier for your Hornets to squeak into the playoffs this year. ;)

Looks like the Mavs will sign Jamal Magliore to be the backup to Dampier.

Maybe the Suns can hurry up and trade Shaq to Houston... you know, so he can bring them to the 'next level' (2nd round of playoffs)

I'll admit that basketball is the sport I follow the least, but being here in Houston and always watching the sports portion of the news, I hear Rockets news all the time. Is it me, or does Yao have some sort of injury every year, even little nagging ones? My first thought when I opened this thread and read that he was hurt was "AGAIN??". I just want to know if it's just my imagination, since I really don't keep up with basketball as much as other sports.

Nope your right he has been injured alot. This is the third season in a row he will not finish the season. Also this is the 2nd time that he has missed time because of the same injury on the same foot. He's slowly turning into a 7' 6 version of Bill Walton.

Okay, I'm not as clueless as I thought. :hihi: It's a shame though; I like Yao. I hope he recovers in time for the Beijing Olympics.

I was reading in an article where some writers are even talking about if China would even want to allow Yao back to play for the ROCKETS.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-30-115/A-Crushing-Blow-to-Yao-Ming-and-the-Rockets.html

The relationship between the NBA, the Houston Rockets, and the Chinese government figures prominently in any and all matters Yao Ming. Even picking him first in the draft was not simple. Now, with Yao Ming slated to be the superstar showpiece of perhaps the most important sporting event in China's recent history -- the 2008 Beijing Olympics -- there must be a hundred new ways these international relationships can be tested. With something this bad having happened, there will be blame to spread around, and future questions to work out. Will Yao Ming be ready to play in the Olympics? Whose decision will that be? Are the Rockets prepared to let the Chinese team make that call? And what about next season -- now that China's national basketball treasure has injured himself repeatedly Houston's watch (he has also had a broken tibia) might there be concerns about his returning to the NBA at all?

If China wants to risk any chance of it being included in any potential global expansion that Stern has spoken about, then they should go ahead and try something like that.

I know that there are many professional basketball leagues around the globe, but the best players from top to bottom aren't coming out of the world's most populous nation.

I honestly think he would have defected already had it not been for some type of extortion/his family still living there. They must be taking almost all of his salary as it is under the communist system.

* I'm assuming Yao is under contract with the Rockets for next season.

:nono:

Weak sauce will not be allowed.

I agree that it's "backing in" if it happens that way, but indirectly, Yao's injury might be a major part of what helps keep the Hornets here via a playoff appearance (run?) and added interest/butts in the seats.

If they flame out and finish in 9th (or worse) place, it doesn't help AT ALL in terms of getting attendance numbers higher.

In that respect, I'll take any help (i.e.: less competition) we can get. We can't lose any of our teams.
