Each year there are approximately 400 players in the NFL who while playing on the offensive side of the ball have an opportunity to get touches in both the run and passing portion of the game. Taysom Hill was one of only 11 players in 2023 who had a positive success rate both in rushing and receiving with at least 100 combined touches. I got this information as a side note to articles that were in the "D.A. Ranked Worst Returning HC By NBC Sports Analyst. Do You Agree?" thread that I started.

From my OP in that thread ------

Excerpts from the article by John Sigler of SaintsWire.USAToday.Com:

That uncalled-for shot at Taysom Hill aside — the Saints have used him on critical downs because he’s more reliable than anyone else, being one of 11 players in the NFL with a positive success rate as both a runner and receiver on 100-plus touches — this is a good assessment of the trouble the Saints have found themselves in.

Hot Take: Another shine on Taysom Hill being one of only 11 players in the NFL with a positive success rate as both a runner and receiver on 100-plus touches. Hill had a 44.0 success rate as a passer in 2023. Had he been over 50 he would have stood alone as the only player as a passer, a runner, and a receiver to have positive success rates in all 3 categories. Close but no cigar. But it all underscores the dynamic of TH7.

Yet after 138 replies and over 6,000 views to that thread nobody commented on this little nugget that shined a bright light in an otherwise mostly negative thread. While I found this sidenote from his article interesting John didn't elaborate on who the other 10 players were that achieved this accomplishment, so I took the time to look up all players that could have done so. From my research I came to the same conclusion that the number of players to achieve this in fact was 11. Taysom is in pretty elite company. Most of the players got the majority of their touches in either the run game or the pass game with barely a few touches in the other.

Before going further let me outline what defines "Success" by Rushing and by Receiving. Also, to have a "positive" success rate you must exceed 50.0% in that category.

Rushing Success Rate:
A successful rush gains at least 40% of yards required on 1st down, 60% of yards required on 2nd down, and 100% of yards required on 3rd or 4th down. Denominator is rushing attempts.

Receiving Success Rate:
A successful reception gains at least 40% of yards required on 1st down, 60% of yards required on 2nd down, and 100% of yards required on 3rd or 4th down. Denominator is targets.

Players in 2023 who had a positive success rate both rushing and receiving with a minimum of 100 touches combined are listed below:

1. Christian McCaffrey - SF - RB - 3rd in MVP, Offensive Player Of The Year, 1st Team All-Pro RB, Pro Bowl RB

2. CeeDee Lamb - DAL - WR - 3rd in Offensive Player Of The Year, 1st Team All-Pro, Pro Bowl WR

3. Amon-Ra St. Brown - DET - WR - 1st Team All-Pro WR, Pro Bowl WR

4. Puka Nacua - LAR - WR - 2nd in Offensive Rookie Of The Year, 2nd Team All-Pro, Pro Bowl WR

5. Keenan Allen - LAC - WR - Pro Bowl WR

6. Stefon Diggs - BUF - WR - Pro Bowl WR

7. James Cook - BUF - RB - Pro Bowl RB

8. Gus Edwards - BAL - RB

9. Adam Thielen - CAR - WR

10. David Montgomery - DET - RB

11. Taysom Hill - NO - Swiss Army Knife/Joker

When taking a deeper dive into the 11 players above and narrowing the list to players that had at least 25 touches in both rushing and receiving, there were only 3 players to have done so.

1. Christian McCaffery, 272 rushes, 67 receptions.

2. James Cook, 237 rushes, 44 receptions.

3. Taysom Hill, 81 rushes, 33 receptions.

Another notch in TH7s belt. Another stat that like many others finds Hills name. A "role" player that makes the most out of his opportunities. The stats prove he and the Saints are more successful when he gets just a few more touches per game yet both prior play callers refused to bump his number of touches by just a few. There's been a lot of talk here that Hill may not be a fit in the Kubiak system. If Klint is smart, he will find a way to scheme Hill into his system and get him the ball in a number of different ways, hopefully some new ways that we haven't seen yet or much of in the past.

What say you?

Because we already know that Hill is a unique player. Everyone here is aware. There are only a couple of ppl here who think Hill needs to be praised daily, as if Saints fans don't appreciate Hill already and need to be convinced. We get it.

Thanks for putting this together.TH is a game changer for sure. Pump him the ball!

I think what the OP is saying is that many on here have been looking for the “Deebo” role player in the draft, but it’s possible that we have a player of that can fill that role to an extent. Albeit that can used it many different ways. More like a reminder. Plus, “if” we do manage to grab a player more in mold of a “Deebo” (highly unlikely”, then we could have two “X” factors.
