This won’t be popular but Saunders is not at all an asset on the line. Slightly below average imo. As is Shepherd.

Saunders was the one we were all excited about last year when they signed both he and Shepherd, but its Shepherd that holds up better in run defense and provided some pass rush from the interior, Saunders not so much, he's athletic for his size but that's where it stops it would seem.

You are right. He's a fun guy and a fun story, but he has not developed into the player they thought he would become when they signed him from the Chiefs. No push in pass rush and hasn't been good in run defense.

DT John Ridgeway is pretty solid against the run with Washington. Have no idea how he is rushing the passer, but think he mainly a run stopper. Saints were high on Ridgeway at Senior Bowl a couple years ago.

There has been talk about trading or cutting him. He's not happy with falling behind Breese and frankly, although he's a fun guy, he hasn't lived up to what they expected him to be when they signed him.

Also, our run defense was bad last year. They may be seen as a way to upgrade the run defense.
