I've heard that too and that's the only other way this move could make sense. I don't understand though why we wouldn't just IR him since we can't cut an injured vet outright. Perhaps that's coming.

But even when we have carried a second nose on the 53, which isn't all the time, we typically make that guy a healthy scratch anyway. So why trade for one?

Interesting. Curious as to what they see in him. When he came out in draft, he was considered to be a good physical specimen who really did not put it together on the field. Low risk bet on his potential I guess.

Saunders is suppose to miss some time. He may go to IR and he maybe is a place holder.

So many people conveniently ignoring the Saints defensive line last season was one of the worst in the entire league.

28th in Sacks.
28th in Pressure percentage.
23rd in Rush Yards per Carry.
31st in Tackles for Loss.

The fact the Saints secondary wasn't completely shredded is a huge testament to just how freaking good the defensive backs are. They led the league in passes defended.

Signing Chase Young who has never come close to living up to the hype and spending a 6th round pick on a DT were their only moves this offseason until now.

I doubt this move does much, BUT they only gave up a 6th round pick and got a 7th in return for a potential depth DT so all in all not bad.

Bresee and Granderson can't do it all by themselves. Someone else has to step up.
