A union is required to act in the best interest of every dues paying member. They could be brought up on charges with the department of labor for failing to act in the best interest of every member. We don't/can't/won't trade away jobs.It seems to me that in that situation when you know you are doomed to fail in the long run, the smart move would be to negotiate for more money, guarantees for a certain number of jobs for a certain time period, and for the employers to fund free training to train guys to work with the new automated systems or pay for them to be trained for other job markets.
I get that, but at the same time there are situations where what might be right for one group of members is not right for another group of members. It's unavoidable when they are dealing with people in different life situations that are in the same group. There are inevitable conflicts when you are talking about the interest of a guy who is say 60 and a guy who is say 24.A union is required to act in the best interest of every dues paying member. They could be brought up on charges with the department of labor for failing to act in the best interest of every member. We don't/can't/won't trade away jobs.

So after all this talk about automation and protecting jobs, they settled for a 66% wage increase with no guaranteed jobs in the future? Or did CNN not report the entire tentative agreement?
No, people are dumb. What's crazy about that is, toilet paper is domestically produced, not even at risk with this strike. People are weird.
