Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary] (3 Viewers)

Well that won’t escalate to a 2nd lol.

“The Raiders are getting a conditional third-round pick that can become a second-round pick in return for the star wide receiver, according to ESPN. The Jets are assuming all of Adams’ contract according to ESPN.

The conditions to make the pick a second-rounder are difficult to attain.”

  • Advice: After he passed a physical earlier Tuesday, Adams officially joined the Jets, who acquired the six-time Pro Bowl wideout from the Raiders in exchange for a 2025 conditional third-round draft pick. Adams had missed the Raiders' last three games with the hamstring injury, but if he's able to resume practicing during the upcoming week without any major restrictions, the Jets likely won't hesitate to include him in the game plan for Sunday. The addition of Adams provides quarterback Aaron Rodgers with a familiar option in the passing game -- the two spent eight seasons together in Green Bay -- and should also help lessen the burden on emerging third-year receiver Garrett Wilson, who had been targeted on 37 percent of Rodgers' pass attempts over the past two weeks. Shortly after the trade was finalized, Schefter relayed that Adams reworked his contract to lower his salary number to $3.21 million for 2024, and his deal includes voidable years in 2025 and 2026. Adams and the Jets will thus wait and see how the remainder of the season plays out before he meets with management again in the offseason to discuss his future in New York.

Looks like all the panic about his 2025/26 cap numbers was unnecessary, this reads like he is on a true one year deal in New York with the team having first option to resign him before he hits free agency.

So Davante Adams will be our big free agent signing in 2025…cool.

Indeed. It was never a contract/$ issue. The bellyaching about his contract was never warranted. And most likely the team and player came to an understanding of what would happen well before the trade was finalized. And interestingly enough, even though the Raiders didn't eat any of this year's salary, the rework allowed the Jets to push those dollars into the voidable years, so cutting him after this season doesn't hurt the Jets.

All that said, it's entirely possible the Adams to Saints talk was a ruse to get the Jets to agree to the conditional pick and Adams wasn't angling for the Saints as much as showing the Jets there was competition for his services.

Either way, it's water under the bridge at this point and I'm relieved we didn't give up a 3rd for him.

Keep that guy a million miles away from this team. We don’t need it. We are better off by far without him. This isn’t a MVS feel good story, he’s a guy that can’t produce anymore at all unfortunately his age and decisions have gotten the best of him. If he came here earlier, fair, no more of it going forward he chose jets, let them cut him and let him sit. I would take MT back before him and I don’t think he deserves a spot either.

Go with the horse you got and dance with the ones that came with you this season

Except there is no guarantee how he would have reworked his deal with the Saints or if he would have at all. So it wasn't "bellyaching". It was the reality of the situations. Beyond that, we don't know the details of the deal and "voidable" is not the same thing as "void years". So, it could be a player or team options or a mutual option for a lot of money per year. Regardless, this team has no business giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for an older player who isn't exactly lighting the world on fire in N.Y.

Plus, since we did not have the cap space to eat Adam's contract for this year, we likely would have either had to do a different deal that pushed money into future years and/or had to give up a 2nd a maybe more to get the Raiders to eat the money on Adam's contract for this year.

I mean, a lot has changed since I made that post. So...it's a whatever from me, lol.
