The person being out of town would give this more attention/resources and the rest of the country would think of this more as a national/international problem. A local person doing this would make it easier for this country to go on about its business thinking this is nothing more than just a New Orleans (and all its negative attributes) issue.Over one person... ONE of metro area of over a million. One person? You are being overdramatic for no reason. A terrorist is a terrorist.
ISIS from New Orleans and ISIS from Denver and ISIS from Houston and ISIS from Miami IS STILL ISIS. Would you not go to those other cities if its revealed that the ONE person is from there.I really don't understand where your argument is coming from. There's no way you can conclude that if people outside the city believed this incident was just common local criminal mischief that it wouldn't have an affect on their opinion of the city and their desire to ever come to visit here.
I merely said that it's best for the city if/when the media makes it clear around the country that this crime was an attack from an outside source. How do you continue to find a problem with that statement?
There's also definitely a certain demographic that likes to make premature assumptions to reach convenient conclusions in order to demonize those they dislike or disagree with.Too early to speculate, but there’s definitely a certain demographic that drives an F150 with Texas plates and a flag flying from the back of it.
That’s the frustrating thing about these events- we all want to find the logical answers to insanely irrational actionsIf it was an actual ISIS attack, why wouldn't they have waited until the superbowl crowd?
Perhaps they were expecting more security there than for NYE/Sugar Bowl.If it was an actual ISIS attack, why wouldn't they have waited until the superbowl crowd?
Wow. I mean, I was 10 and not living here and even though it doesn't get brought up a lot, obviously something like this does bring it back up. My husband's told me a little as he pointed out the hotel the first time I was here and I think I've seen the local news report on it some. In this day and age, would that have been a story this huge?I distinctly remember it because my dad was NOPD at the time and was one of the officers on the rooftop.
We know that it happens everywhere. When I made that comment at the beginning of this thread I was worried about the hit to the reputation of the city. At the time no one outside of the immediate area was aware that this incident had nothing to do with the 'normal' crime & violence that some associate with New Orleans. Officials here know and have stated publicly that this perception can have an effect on tourism. I just didn't want to see my city have to suffer from more bad PR.this literally just happened in Germany. It can easily happen anywhere. thats why events should always have some strong barricades or put cars in front to block.

But I did have similar questions- like hasn’t isis been fairly low-key lately and then why NO at 3am of all times/places?

A lot of these kinds of ISIS attacks were "lone wolf" attacks. The group didn't really plan the attack, just one guy sympathetic to them did it. They've encouraged these kinds of attacks in the past.Perhaps they were expecting more security there than for NYE/Sugar Bowl.
Hmm, thinking that security at the SB will be 10 x greater vs. NYE with feds involved from the jump. That’s the frustrating thing about these events- we all want to find the logical answers to insanely irrational actions
