Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (3 Viewers)

Ya gotta take into account which outlets are reporting the border stuff. It's kinda their thing.
Yeh, my point was that the truck was a rental, so anyone could have been driving it back in November. It's a F150 Lightning, so the rental rate was probably pretty high. I highly doubt this guy has been renting this vehicle for over a month. So, yeh, you have to look at who is trying to make a point of the truck crossing the border.

I get the desire to know about the motives for why something likes this occurs. It's hard to wrap our minds around doing something so terrible... but it will never make sense. But really the best thing is to wait and focus on supporting and comforting the victims, which is where our attention should be right now.

@Krodwhodat - I'm glad your brother is fine. How absolutely terrifying that must be, and I'm grateful he wasn't more badly injured.

I feel like the details of this story is gonna be wild.
Besides the ultimate larger questions, I have some random wandering thoughts. Why the timing as opposed to closer to midnight? Or even later today as crowds wander the city during the day before the Sugar Bowl. Where was this guy earlier? Was he staying somewhere here or had he just rolled into town from wherever he embarked and whenever he got here is when he got here to carry out this attack? I know from being on the road yesterday how many Texas plates I saw because I remarked about it. Now, I don't think for a minute we passed him, but still it makes you think about vehicles you pass.

If it was an actual ISIS attack, why wouldn't they have waited until the superbowl crowd?

Over one person... ONE of metro area of over a million. One person? You are being overdramatic for no reason. A terrorist is a terrorist.
I really don't understand where your argument is coming from. There's no way you can conclude that if people outside the city believed this incident was just common local criminal mischief that it wouldn't have an affect on their opinion of the city and their desire to ever come to visit here.

I merely said that it's best for the city if/when the media makes it clear around the country that this crime was an attack from an outside source. How do you continue to find a problem with that statement?

I don’t know if anyone’s said this yet in this thread, but I just saw on CNN that there was an ISIS flag on the truck.

Edit:

Sorry. Been out of the loop this morning and had no tv on and wasn’t using my phone until an hour ago. My apologies if I’m stating already known information.
Yeah, I had heard it mentioned early on and I hesitated to bring it up; but now -- whether it's going to actually turn out to be accurate or not -- it's out there.

National and international publicity for the city takes yet another hit. Soon we'll learn how many of the dead & injured were visitors for the Sugar Bowl, and the NFL will likely be rethinking the Big Easy as a viable site for future Superbowls. It's getting harder each day to proudly tell people that New Orleans is my home town.
this literally just happened in Germany. It can easily happen anywhere. thats why events should always have some strong barricades or put cars in front to block.

My personal feeling is I don't think it was an actual ISIS attack (and perhaps for that very reason) but exactly. That's only five weeks from now so why now.

I would say the HoJo sniper, Mark Essex, which kicked off on 12/31/1973 oddly enough.
Yeah, a couple others on the news brought that up but not the date! Whoa. Holy crap.

Personally I haven't been on any "outlet" today. I am only watching local NOLA coverage.
