Saints to interview Giants OC Mike Kafka [Interview scheduled for Thursday January 9th] (1 Viewer)

I'm just saying that if Mahomes was so clearly going to be a star and didn't need any coaching, then he would have been drafted long before #10.

And if you believe Mahomes, Kafka was part of the reason that he was ready when he got his first start. Of course, that doesn't mean Kafka is going to be a good head coach.
Idk, but I do know that Mahomes was a true gun slinger at Texas Tech. Cant answer why he wasn’t taken earlier or even ahead of Trubisky. I have seen Mahomes make some throws at TT that made me watch more of their games.
If I had to take a guess, I think NFL teams didn’t like his “off scripted” plays and throws. They probably thought that he wouldn’t get away with that at the next level. Have to remember that this was back in 2015/2016. His throwing motion and everything wasn’t fundamentally sound or like it was always taught. Low and behold, all of his unsoundly talent has worked at the next level, and now every team is looking for the next “Pat Mahomes” who can make off scripted plays

Yes that’s why I said first start. Mahomes would’ve been ready even if he didn’t sit. It’s obvious by watching this dude. He is unlike the other 31 NFL starting QBs. Some athletes are “touched by the hand of God”. He’s one of them. So many of his throws are not from NFL coaching bc he was making those throws in college.
This is too narrow of a perspective. In the pros, having the arm and being touched by the hand of God -- and little else -- only gets a player so far.

A good comp from the 1980s: Tampa Bay Steve Young couldn't QB his way out of a paper bag. San Francisco Steve Young waltzes into the Hall of Fame.

Coaching matters. Not to turn pumpkins into stars, but to get the most out of both your pumpkins and your stars. Even the greats can be -- and have been -- put in poor positions to succeed.

It’s not a narrow perspective. Some athletes are so dang gifted, that they are destined for greatness, and they are head and shoulders above their peers.

So the Saints F.O. is not going to tell us why they're interviewing him.

Two years ago I was pushing for us to interview Kafka. While a lot of people were touting Bieniemy, Kafka was the guy that helped develop that offensive passing game. I like the similarities to Sean too, I pointed them out back then. The Giants situation is perplexing. Although, whatever is wrong in Gotham seems a lot bigger than OC. A good chef can't turn bad ingredients into a 5 star meal, especially when the head coach think's he's the offensive chef.

Maybe you should listen to what Mahomes said about Kafka and how he helped him SMH

I actually did. Pat essentially said that Mike got him prepared with the playbook.
Let’s think about this. Pat drafted in 2017. Mike was offense quality control that year.
In 2018, Pat came out on a tear. On his way to 5K and 50 TDs, along with MVP. That was Mike’s first year as QBs coach. So yall are telling me, that in one offseason of Mike being QB’s coach, he worked the impossible, of making Pat the best QB in the NFL. Pat’s first season as the starting QB??? Not buying it. Pat is just a truly gifted QB, that was waiting to rip the NFL a new one.

He clearly can't make lemonade. He would have to with the current Saints roster.

I think you have to look long term. Not sure if Kafka is the guy, but what you are looking for is a guy to build a team for the long term, not just the best guy to get by with our currently mediocre roster.

I did some searches and the Nature Boy tells no lies. He was definitely on this topic a year ago and longer evaluating the staff under Andy Reid.
