Let's be honest.

Coaches want to go somewhere with a young, blue-chip quarterback on a rookie deal, not one with an uncertain future and no assurances that he'll be here beyond next season.

I'll put on my wishing hat and predict it will be Rizzi. Mccarthy goes to Chicago, Glenn to the Jets, Johnson to the Raiders, Brady stays in Buffalo another year.

Could be completely wrong.

All that he's put on tape should cure that roadblock . . . .

Just because we pay him,the next coach doesn’t need to play him. Yes, expensive backup insurance policy, but if the new coach identifies a rookie or trade for 2nd year QB, use rattler/haener as a bridge, he can go with that. Or cut him and deal with the cap with the above. Give him a year to build up using the draft. Nobody is expecting much the 1st year anyway, probably 2 years.

I’m not saying Carr makes anybody jump at this job but some people act like he’s been terrible here. He hasn’t. Statistically, he’s acquitted himself fairly well during some very challenging circumstances. The biggest problem has been protecting him and keeping him healthy.

I also think Rattler showed off developmental potential.

Nobody taking this job is coming in with big expectations put on them in year one. I think the QB room is at least solid enough to be a bridge to future opportunities. As long as the front office can sell the right candidate on a shared vision and strong support, I don’t think our current QBs are necessarily a dealbreaker.

Why having a veteran quarterback a bad thing for a new coach? He can still draft another quarterback down the road but having someone with experience helps out a lot more for a new coach than dealing with a rookie quarterback.

I don't think Carr is a huge negative because he could be cut this year if a coach wants to and he can easily be cut next year so there is no long term commitment to him. And if you are a new coach, there are worse things than having a top 15 or so QB starting for you.

It would be better if we had a Daniels, Maybe, or Williams, but it's better than having no QBs, nothing but terrible QB, or say Lawrence who is around the same quality of QB that Carr is but has a huge long term contract that you can't get out of.

So, I doubt Carr is a deal breaker. But, the lack of a good young QB certainly pushes us down the list below teams that do depending on how much a coach likes that young QB.

By the way, the Jets QB situation is probably worse than ours because Rodgers is worse than Carr and is a complete head case.

Yeah like how many teams looking for a new head coach have that requirement other than maybe Chicago.

Actually it can be the opposite. Coaches can see Carr as a bridge quarterback, that can allow the team to build around until a young franchise qb is ready.

If you don’t have a really talented young one, like Daniels or Strout, starting your process with a rookie is recipe to disaster

I think it was telling that in a QB needy league his former team literally benched him to get rid of him. Then Carr became a free agent and he only went on two visits. The Saints and the Jets. The Jets were really only using him to put pressure on Green Bay to trade Rodgers. Depsite what I keep hearing about Carr's stats being top 10, there is something that NFL teams don't like about him and don't want to latch onto. But DA wanted to prove something with the QB he drafted and now we're stuck with figuring out what to do with him. One good thing about our situation is that we can cut him and recoup some of his salary because of the offsets written into his contract, which would be around $10 million. I don't think he would be willing to play for less than $20 on a one year deal so we should probably get that back for our cap.

Rizzi?!? Did you not watch the second half of every game he head coached? It was like a whole other unprepared team exited the locker room after halftime. The second halves of those games were an unmitigated disaster. If his team has performed as well as they did in the first half of every one of those games he would’ve been a lock for HC. Instead he “coached” his way out of the job.

My choices are -

1.) Ben Johnson - he’s probably a pipe dream but I hope they at least get to interview him.

2.) Joe Brady - probably another pipe dream but worth a shot. He’ll be a hot property with all the teams looking for coaches and given the Saints’ roster and cap situation…….

3.) Aaron Glenn - a distant third but probably the guy they have the best shot at. Depending on what OC he hires, he might work out.

Two old, tired retreads I don’t want anywhere near this team -

1.) Mike McCarthy - he did virtually nothing with Dallas’ decent (but overrated) roster. He won a SB with a peak Aaron Rodgers but has done since except be a regular season champ, playoff chump.

2.) Jon Gruden - sued the NFL, let go over racist tweets, hated by Goodell. The flags would be flying like rain during a summer Louisiana thunderstorm every time the Saints stepped on the field.
