Opinion A major roadblock to the Saints coaching search could be Derek Carr (23 Viewers)

I’m not saying Carr makes anybody jump at this job but some people act like he’s been terrible here. He hasn’t. Statistically, he’s acquitted himself fairly well during some very challenging circumstances. The biggest problem has been protecting him and keeping him healthy.

I also think Rattler showed off developmental potential.

Nobody taking this job is coming in with big expectations put on them in year one. I think the QB room is at least solid enough to be a bridge to future opportunities. As long as the front office can sell the right candidate on a shared vision and strong support, I don’t think our current QBs are necessarily a dealbreaker.

All that he's put on tape should cure that roadblock . . . .
Carr lost more games in 10 yrs than Brady in 23 yrs. That's his tape, final score is loss. I'll say it again we had a light schedule strength wise even with injuries we should of gotten above 500 but DA AndDC comics are the Bloose brothers. He saying no pay cut we didn't bring him here to make money they brought him here to win but he know he's not a winner that's why he talking stats.

I think it was telling that in a QB needy league his former team literally benched him to get rid of him. Then Carr became a free agent and he only went on two visits. The Saints and the Jets. The Jets were really only using him to put pressure on Green Bay to trade Rodgers. Depsite what I keep hearing about Carr's stats being top 10, there is something that NFL teams don't like about him and don't want to latch onto. But DA wanted to prove something with the QB he drafted and now we're stuck with figuring out what to do with him. One good thing about our situation is that we can cut him and recoup some of his salary because of the offsets written into his contract, which would be around $10 million. I don't think he would be willing to play for less than $20 on a one year deal so we should probably get that back for our cap.

Where to begin with this post...

McDaniels didn't want him from the start, he benched and released Carr with the hopes that his former QB Brady (who was the only reason for his success in NE) would change his mind on retirement and go with the Raiders. He didn't, so McDouche signed Jimmy Garopollo who was Brady's backup and "knew the system". Jimmy G turned out to be absolute garbage so he lost a ton of games, got fired, and the Raiders immediately corrected the mistake and cut Jimmy G.

Carr had a no-trade clause so he held all the cards. He also had an injury clause on his contract where his 2023 contract was 100% guaranteed if he got injured in the 2022 season. So they benched him to prevent that from kicking in. Then released him after he refused to waive the no-trade. (I mean, F the Raiders for backstabbing him, he wasn't going to help them). Upon being released, he could have signed with about 9-10 teams around the NFL who needed a QB but narrowed it down to the 2 teams that: 1) Needed a QB and 2) Had a solid team and DEFENSE that could actually help him win, after being with the 20th-32nd ranked defense his ENTIRE career. (Go look it up, he had one of the worst D's in NFL history for one season). At least a few other teams reached out to L.V. with trade requests but he wouldn't waive it.

He thought the Saints would have a defense solid enough to win more, but that turned out to be a bust. How many times did the offense get a lead, only for them to leave guys wide open or commit an idiotic PI penalty to set up the opponent to win it?

"The thing about Steve Deberg? He's just good enough to get you fired." - Bill Walsh

Seems appropriate for the discussion.

I know the history and didn't need to read the book, but this part is just plain made up. There was never any reports out there that any other teams came knocking. Only two knocked and one was fake. There is no need for revisions to make anyone feel better. He wasn't in demand and we signed him to a bad contract.

Who were these 9-10 teams he could have signed with?

The Saints were in essence bidding against themselves the last go around. Where else was he going? Granted as a backup sure, but as a starter? The Jets? Had he signed there (never would have happened, but let's assume it could have.) Could you imagine the NY media with him? It would have been a field day.

i don't think that D. Carr would not be a desirable QB to work with till they draft one they like. I think the money will all work out and they'll both have to give a little for the sake of the team

I think Carr gives a new coach a safety net. He inherits him, Carr is good enough to win with next season, the new coach could then bring in his guy in free agency or the draft to develop. There are some good young players these coaches should know about.
