2017 Or Bust! (1 Viewer)

..The Saints with Brees should never be rebuilding. This division is weak and they should be competing for a playoff spot every season.

Wow. The way Flacco gets treated, if that's the case, reminds me of the way Donavan McNabb was treated in Philly to some extent.

I totally agree with this statement. AFC East is weak in ,imo, but the best QB in that conference is in the playoffs year, in year out. Saints have the best QB in the NFC South but because of lack of a D &/or ST, we are mediocre at best. Harbaugh as a coach would ,I think, kill 2 birds (D & ST)...Man, im good at being an armchair GM! Let's imagine that we are in the Saints front office Monday morning after the Falcons game. Win or loss does not matter as the playoffs are not going to happen. And let me start by saying that Payton & Brees have brought respectability to the Saints organization.

However, I think that what should happen is that the Saints brass lay down an ultimatum: 2017 will see the Saints back in the playoffs or 2018 will look much differently than today.

The Baltimore Ravens are a team like that. Harbaugh may be gone in seven days because Bushotti (sp?) is a playoffs or bust kind of owner. The Saints can live off of the "character " mantra & their 2009 Super Bowl win for only so long.

The time to win is now. Anything less is unacceptable.

I don't get why people are red-thumbing you. This is exactly what needs to happen. You didn't even say "Super Bowl" either...all you said was that they needed to get back to the playoffs.

I actually told a co-worker after the Tampa game (the garbage from a few weeks ago, not Christmas Eve) that Benson needed to call both Payton and Brees in the office.......explain to them that they've been wonderful assets to the team and city.........and that he has complete confidence that they are the right guys to turn it back around and make another run...........but that this nonsense is not gonna continue to be tolerated for much longer. I'm not saying that needs to be conveyed in a "threatening" tone, per se.......but I just think some higher goals need to be set, and everyone walks away knowing that anything less is unacceptable.

I have no doubt that Brees is probably a worse critic on himself than anyone else possibly could be..........likely the same with Payton.........but, at the end of the day, we're about to experience a 4th non-winning season out of the last 5. And, quite frankly, Brees has choked away enough of his fair share of games in those seasons to where multiple 5k-yard passing seasons are not enough to give him blanket exemption. Ditto Payton.
