32-Team First-Round Mock Draft: Saints Take Ashton Jeanty at 9, Abdul Carter Goes to Cleveland (9 Viewers)

Do we trust the FO do this?
I'm going with the new coach, new slate. Especially with an offensive coach, probably best chance we've had since Payton.

Also depends on the type of offense, run heavy would be easier for the new guys to block versus a pass heavy one.

The team is so discombobulated. Most of the injuries were on the offense. Yet, when the OL got back together, they were still bad. The defense wasn’t as injured but was poor all season. From that, I conclude that in general, the defense needs more help through the draft. And, I think the defense is older.

Nonetheless, we have to see what happens in free agency. Probably, not much will change because of cap constraints, but the Saints have a history of surprising everyone.

As far as Jeanty is concerned, look at it this way: we have a 30 year old star and a young player who’s almost always injured. And we have a new HC who comes from a team that featured Saquon Barkley. Hmmmmmm..,.
OL is not something that is just plug n play. 1st you had a rookie and a guy playing a new position and they played all of 2 games together before it all fell apart. Then they went like 7-8 games where they didn't even practice as a whole. Then they get 1-2 games together with some of them not being 100%. You will not get an accurate assessment of the OL under those circumstances

I don't know why everyone automatically thinks that CKM will try and build the Saints in the image of the Eagles offense and go out and find a Barkley or a Hurts when that was more Sirianni's offense. I think the model he had in Dallas is more indicative of what he will try and build , at least at first

Sure the Eagles do... But we do this every year.... "Well team XYZ won the SB because they have this or that - So to win a SB you must have this or that"

Teams win in all sorts of ways - There is no one formula. And for as good as the Eagles are up front on both sides of the ball...

They are not winning a SB without investing a lot of money and draft capital in Their QB - WR 1, 2, and 3 - TE - And RB (All Top 55 picks).... In fact they couldn't win it with nearly the same team minus Barkley prior to this year...
There have been teams that won the SB with mediocre QBs, with mediocre RBs , with mediocre WRs and even some with poor TEs. But no team ever won a SB with mediocre to poor OL and DL and all star skilled positions

It's only a new slate for the head coach, not the front office. He can say philosophically, "I want a certain type of player," but he depends on the FO for player evaluations. He may focus on the first-round guys, but he won't know a lot about the 3rd round + types.

We have already built our lines... we have spent premium pick after premium pick on OL and DL nearly every year for over a decade.... It's time for those guys to not suck, and bring in some young guys who can score points so I don't die of boredom by halftime.
LOL you remind me of those guys on the basketball court that don't care about winning as long as they look doing what they are doing.

So if we had spent premium pick after premium pick on a QB,RB,WR,TE and they had not panned out, you'd say " it's time for them to not suck" SMH

There are no sure things in the draft, if you don't find the player you need at a position that does not mean that you don't NEED a player at that position and you just stop drafting it. All in the name of you not being BORED

Exactly -great point Armstead 3rd rd, Evans 4th Rd, Unger 2nd rd, Strief 7th, Nicks 5th rd.----these were excellent OLines.
Yes they were great players for us but that's almost 2 decades of drafts to find 5 players that were not 1st rd picks

Yep this is the perfect year to load up on linemen in the middle to late rounds since 4 of the 5 starting spots are spoken for. Find our starting LG in FA then load up on depth and developmental players. That way we can replace Ruiz next year and get some insurance for Penning if his development stalls.

I was listening to Ross Jackson and FA has some interesting options at NT which is biggest need on our defensive line.
Ross has us going after a guy that will command 18-20 mil a yr, sorry ain't gonna happen

People have been saying that the CSP and DA have been in charge of picking the players in the draft and now that we have a new HC that should change the way we pick players because CKM will be doing it. I wish it weren't that way all the time, but if it's true we should be seeing some strategy changes coming in this years draft.
It's not only the players we pick but their development. Marrone was an awful OL coach and you can see how well he developed Penning. Grantham was just as bad an DL coach , you saw the difference when he got demoted/fired.
DA was not big on playing younger players over vets. I look for Foskey to maybe get better and maybe we keep Turner and he develops more with the new D coaching staff

The fact that Hendrickson, Baun, Anzalone, and some other players have gone on to be really good is a testament to our draft evaluation just not our development and evaluation post draft

New read from me.

This is the mock draft that features all 32 teams that I have written for the 2025 cycle. I'll probably have two more before the opening night of the draft.
The team-oriented mocks for the Saints will be back soon. Enjoy!!

I have no problem drafting Jeanty but for sure not @9 . My biggest issue with him is his amount of carries and the level of competition. And I don't think he's worth the #9 pick. If Carter, T-Mac or Graham are gone, I'm doing everything I can to trade back and get even an extra 3rd and try and draft Warren @ 13. Warren presents a bigger need than Jeanty and is in my cloud of players of the same value

NFL can’t be desperate enough to make a QB that losses to KU and KState a top 10 pick.

Yeah they are. Teams are willing to take a chance on almost anyone. But when I watched his highlights I saw a guy with the physical tools and a pretty good touch on the ball. So I can see why people might gamble.
