His concussion issues is what affects his value, not what an oft-injured older WR who is not on a rookie deal.

Even considering the concussions, some teams would be willing to essentially take a flier on a young 1k yard caliber WR by parting with a conditional 3rd-conditional 4th or a 4th+5th. Depends on what team the Saints FO is negotiating with.

If Olave’s concussion history doesn’t improve in ‘25-‘26, new team would only owe the remainder of the rookie deal and gave up mid round picks for a WR1/WR2. Deebo’s cap hits and dead money in the next 2 seasons at ages 29-30 are 15M in ‘25 and 20M dead money coming with a void in ‘26 which factored into his trade compensation. Olave’s ‘25 cap is under half of Deebo’s ‘25 hit.

Deebo has 1 year left on his deal, comes at a significant cap hit and is 30 years old. The Commanders would be crazy to give anything more unless they can sign him to a reasonable extension. The cap hit and uncertainty of being able to sign him beyond 2025 dictated the compensation.

Olave still has 2 cheaper rookie deal salaries left, including 5th year option, and 4 years younger than Samuel. I think he has multi mid round picks value at minimum.

If the fifth year option is used on Olave it will be about $17.5M next year. I don’t call that cheap.

17.5M is significantly cheaper than 16 of the 2024 top market WR cap hits. 14 WR cap hits are in the 38M-20M range in 2024. 17.5 will only be 12th most in 2026 as of right now. The option won’t count until the 2026 offseason. His cap hit is just 6.1M in ‘25.

For potential trade comp regarding the option’s cap, it helps that Olave hasn’t receive Pro Bowl/All-Pro accolades yet prior to the option exercise window. The option would’ve been higher in 20M+ range with those.

Why would we trade Olave? The 49ers have Deebo and Aiyuk up for grabs, they drafted the WR from Florida last year and still have Kittles and McCaffrey, they are just resetting their cap and Shannahan has a system that works and was not predicated on the production of Deebo or Aiyuk.

Why wouldnt we trade Olave? He is Brandin Cooks Redux. The time is now to send him on his way. 1 more year of injuries and/or another concussion and he is maybe out of football.
