In 2003 Fred Thomas was arguably our most consistant and effective defensive player. Let's not let his recent play diminish what did on the field in his prime.

Scandalous, I think despite all the faults that the Haslett regime gave, he was a coach that usually put good teams on the field. I mean we only had like 2 losing seasons with him here, the rest were 8-8 and 9-7 and the 10-6 season we all know about. I miss Haslett in a way because for all the grief and the fist pounding rants that came our way under him, it was exciting. The team was always doing something remarkable or insane or just plain outrageous. Sure I wish he could have won more and been more strict with his players, but he won 45 games as our coach, thats 2nd place behind Mora. We haven't had many HC's who had the impact Haz did, for better or worse.
I will always think of Haslett as a coach who at least tried to bring us a winner and for the most part gave us a good direction for the future. At least under him he did make us competitive and we were always in contention for the playoffs. I think we had some bad luck in 2004 where the Jets missed a FG that would have sent us to the playoffs, but we were competitive and Haslett was a hell of a coach, I will never forget his time here

Gotta defend my man, Freddy T. Like the above poster said, he was a pretty consistent corner back in 03. In fact, he was a consistent corner all the way till like the middle of 2006 when age caught up to him and he started to get picked on game in and game out.

:covri: You are entitled to your opinion.

Mine would be that if Haslett were a good coach, that he'd have won a Superbowl with all of the talent we had. Truth is, Haslett was a subpar coach who had too much going on off of the field, and couldn't find a good linebacker to save his life.

He totally disassembled a decent defense by letting Glover and Hand get away and by bringing in Tebucky Jones.....and he allowed Rick Venturi to continue to draw checks from the organization.

Haslett was a scurge on this franchise, and I'm glad he's gone. I will give him credit for being the coach for our first playoff win......he was a Hakim muff away from losing that game, however.....

Sadly, he was probably the second best HC we've ever had behind Mora....Stram and Ditka had success with other teams....and the book has yet to be written on Sean Payton....hopefully when all is said and done he'll be the best bar none.

so true... man do people love to hate on FT or what?

Anyone have any AB sightings' news?

Truely nostalgic. I remember how happy those years made me, and i still try to forget how disgustingly horrible those years were too. Sad, but it was a somewhat fun ride, maybe its just because i'm a diehard and i'm biased. Tebucky? Sullivan? Linebackers? Brooks? Run Defense? Two point conversions? Vick? Culpepper? River city relay? hahaha I'm gonna go puke now.

Matter of fact I do, I saw him at the grocery store the other day. I asked him how he was doing and he said he was good. I asked if he has heard from any teams recently and how his football career was going, to which he replied, nothing yet after the shot in Oakland. I told him thats a shame, then he rang up my items, and I paid and left.

If Haslett was an offensive minded coach I would agree but he was a defensive minded coach who went 5 years without recognizing our defensive deficiencies or correcting them with worse players.

I always said we were a 13 win offense with a 3 win defense which always put us in the middle. I think most of the credit goes to the much maligned Mike McCarthy who most here thought was too predictable and Aaron Brooks who had a 3 year stretch where he was at or close to the tops at 4th quarter comebacks (even though that is as much a reflection on our defense as it is on AB).

Edited to add a 2002 memory I think. Mark Fields covering Randy Moss 30 yds. down the field with no safety help, what were you thinking. Aargh!!
