I'm personally pleased with the Saints snagging Derek Carr. I hope he comes in with a chip on his shoulder feeling like the Raiders scapegoated him. He need this guy to be about at least 70 percent of what Drew Brees was.

4 years 150 million, 100 million guaranted is a hefty price but looking at what QBs are making these days I think it's a fair deal. Besides the Saints were almost willing to break the bank for DeShaun Watson last year and even though he is better than Carr I don't think it's by that much.

Now with their QB in the fold, I think the Saints should concentrate on getting a suitable replacement for Andrus Peat and a solid Running Back either through free agency or the Draft.

Maybe he could do some recruiting and bring TE Foster Moreau or Mack Hollins to the Who Dat.
Or even better with Darren Waller since the Raiders have him on the trading block and he’s been Carr’s primary target for a while. Could probably be had for a future 2nd or this year’s 3rd and another 3rd-4th while he’s coming off injury. Darren and Juwan would be a lethal TE duo.

Hollins would be a good signing. Has Colston like size and is another option in the RZ. He’s more like a #3 option but would be an upgrade over TreQuan Smith as a possession receiver

Andy Dalton

Jameis Winston

That’s all I need to think about to be positive about the signing of Derek Carr.
As a member of the Anybody But Dalton caucus, I feel our goals have been achieved. I’m still not 100% on Carr, but I was 100% certain about not wanting to suffer through another year of Dalton.

It puts us never Dennis-ers in prime position. If we win and look decent winning, man we can just sit back quietly and be happy...but BOY if we don't ohhhhh weeeeee it'll be fun to say the least.

That's the beauty of it. If we winning then good for Allen. If not then he has no more excuses and we can say goodbye and hopefully have enough on offense to be attractive to a young offensive minded coach.

Carr’s signing has a ton of positives -

Carr’s contract is exactly his projected market value. The Saints didn’t overpay and after Jackson and Jones get their new deals Carr’s deal will look like an absolute bargain.

Carr is an improvement over Dalton/Winston. It remains to be seen just how big an improvement but he is an improvement none the less.

It prevents the Saints from being forced to trade up in the draft to try to get a QB.

It now frees the team up to go best player available in the draft. They have a ton of needs and now can use their picks to fill those needs.

Carr brings stability to the Saints QB position. Vet FAs might have been reluctant to sign with Saints with Dalton/Winston/a rookie at QB but now they know the team has a decent QB who can get them to the playoffs.

You may not love him yet but signing the guy solved a lot of problems for the team.

Hopefully MT13 stays as well.

I think people underestimate how well respected Carr is around the league by other players. Not just by fellow QBs like Brees, but I can remember guys like Marshawn Lynch talking about how he liked playing with Carr. That matters in attracting free agents. Most players do want a shot at winning and playing for a team with that goal in mind.

By signing Carr the Saints told the league we’re not giving up. We’re still going for it and that mindset will help in the future.
