A.T. Perry waived (Unclaimed off waivers); Perry signs to the Broncos practice squad (1 Viewer)

He was almost out of the league and signed for league minimum. While I am not saying Perry is as good or better, I am just saying our touted defensive backfield got roasted by a player like him that is far from a superstar in the NFL. That is why I said you would hope they could easily control a player like Perry 1 on 1 (and they should), they also should have performed much better against a player like JuJu and did not show up.
Almost out of the league after not having a QB in New England. Patriots WRs aren’t having productive seasons since Brady left. They’re the worst place for a FA WR to go to or for any starting WR. 8th year vet minimum JuJu is still a significantly better WR than A.T. Perry, as well as better than our current 3rd-5th WRs. I never counted out JuJu or any of the Chiefs WRs before the game while they have Andy Reid scheming their plays. Just because a former multi 1k season WR had a good game in a long time against the Saints DBs doesn’t necessarily mean A.T. Perry is easily able to do the same, especially in 2 weeks. He‘s been inactive for a quarter of the season, cleared waivers and now on a practice squad. 5 WRs are ahead of him. I think he’ll develop into a contributor but he has to earn a role in Denver from the PS amongst an established depth chart.

Saints haven’t allowed WRs to explode for huge games going into MNF. DeVonta Smith and Drake London were scoreless while they were able to get volume short-intermediate catches. Lamb, arguably the NFL’s best WR, had a 65 yd TD catch but 3 rec/25 yds on his other targets vs the Saints. I’m not surprised that the back to back SB winning coach was able to put JuJu in a position for success again after losing their WR1.

Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt. You got a bad case of it.

Right because thinking that the two time defending Super Bowl Champions who have the best QB in the NFL and the best offensive head coach in the NFL might be good at game planning and getting the best out of his players is such a crazy take.

We can act like this is SP being petty or we can realize that this was a rare opportunity for a team that’s thin at WR to add a young WR prospect that knows the system and likely got a strong recommendation from their Senior Offensive Assistant Pete Carmichael.

Not everything SP does is an affront against the Saints. Sometimes good crossover opportunities present themselves.

I think it was a big mistake to cut him off the roster, he was a young promising WR with size….we will see soon enough if that is the case…..ugh….

JuJu is a 8th year proven WR with multiple 90+ reception seasons to his name though. He can still ball like a starting WR with the right QB like he’s done with Mahomes in ‘22 before going to NE. KC targeted Rice, Worthy, and their TEs ahead of him before Rice’s injury.

Perry has potential but couldn’t win a job in this offense this year over Means and Tipton based on their practice reps. We have to see him active first. I’m not sure he’ll carve a role from the PS among 5 preexisting WRs in time to have a chance for a TD against the Saints in 2 weeks.
Im defintely not worried about Denver scoring alot, but i am worried about them holding N.O to a shut out or FG. That defense is nasty

Speaking of Means I’d love to see him in the games making a few catches here and there.

I’m excited about him as I was Perry. That doesn’t bode well for the young man I’d guess lol.

Not rooting for this but it would be fun and intriguing to me if that game was Nix against Rattler.
I'd love to see it. I'd be surprised tho. I think they'll give Haener more than one game to show what he can do unless he completely flops vs Tampa.

It’s this. He did the same when he took the Saints job, bringing in some players he’d been around before. Guys who understand what he expects and he knows what to expect from them. It shouldn’t be a surprise there are a number of former Saints with the Broncos. Players he’s already scouted and worked with.

While Perry doesn’t have that direct connection, as you point out, he’s somebody Carmichael could recommend as a fit for what they like in a player and what they like to do offensively. It’s a no-risk opportunity to get him on the team and see what his potential is.

Well, allegedly, his problem is he didn't learn KK's offense, which would explain at least in part why he was 6th on the depth chart. And probably why he chose Denver because he knows their offense.

That said, Allen could simply sign him back to the roster next week if he wanted to, but I don't see that happening if he doesn't know the offense.

Regardless, some players don't work out. It happens.
Where did you hear/see this report? It seems that every time there's an intriguing udfa or middle-low draft choice, the reason they're not playing is because of their inability to learn the playbook.
Long ago we had a back named Wilmont Perry. He was tough and somewhat reminded you of Eddie George because of his style. The "rumor" why he didn't play or last is because he couldn't learn the playbook.
Well you have to be brainless if you couldn't learn Abramowicz's high school offense.

I can't remember where I heard it from, but that was the rumor on why he never played early on.
Just to confirm, Kevin Foote just mentioned that he used to hear the same thing about Jake while he was lamenting the loss of what he describes as a block out receiver.

That was a common theme around here at one point: player X would leave here and go kill it somewhere else. That falls directly on the shoulders of the coaching staff.

Jake went on to become Carolina's best QB (prior to Cam) because he wasn't a good practice player. The only reason why the Saints wasn't heavily criticized back then was because Brooks wasn't too far off.
