Aaron Rodgers: Enigma (1 Viewer)

Yes the life path of an elite QB is an interesting one. You don't make it that far without being insanely driven. When you're in HS/college you probably have zero free time to be a normal kid, but when you're in the NFL all of a sudden you have money and a long offseason to be as eccentric as you want. Rodgers is smack dab in that cluster of elite QBs of Brees, Manning, Brady, Rivers, Roethlisberger. Its interesting that all the others went with the traditional life path of getting married and having a bunch of kids and only Rodgers comes off as the "free spirit."

I don't think he comes across as a free spirit at all. Doing psychedelics and claiming spiritual enlightenment has become a very big rich people fad in the past few years. And then none of them ever exhibit a single sign of the "ego death" they claim to have achieved through it.

yep, if you want to go trip balls in the forest, just say that...

I mean compared to Brees/Brady/Manning who are just football robots he is a free spirit.

you must not have paid much attention to him and his family while he was here Brees may have been a robot in practice and on the field but when off the field and with his family he wasn't. there were so many videos of him with his family doing some funny things . kids at the mall in their pajamas, etc. i can't speak for Manning, but Brady was definitely a robot. Brees was nothing like him .

I didn’t take ‘robot’ to mean sterile and emotionless
But the three mentioned seem to have something ‘programmed’ about them
Like if they weren’t quarterbacks, they’d have found themselves in very similar tracks
If AR wasn’t a QB he’d have been like a water water raft guide or the unhoused fellow reading Dostoyevsky all day at the coffee house

Oh I know Brees knows how to have a good time. He, and the others I mentioned, seem to be a little more goal-oriented, and those goals are basically football and family. All of them immediately went into football broadcasting upon retirement. Brees owns a sports bar franchise. He's a football guy through and through.

And as much as I love Drew, Tom has shown that he’s pretty damn good in the broadcast booth.

he's affable and has good banter, but he doesn't seem to give insight into the game that some do
like Deuce is so much more predicative about what play is coming or how to set up plays and techniques
and I remember that's what everyone loved about Romo when he first started
