Unverified According to podcaster Timothy J Jones: Aaron Glenn wanted Mickey Loomis removed from GM position in order to take Saints job [mod edit] (109 Viewers)

anyone with a brain knows that Mick is a potential obstacle, not an asset at this point. All of these guys are looking for the best situation to succeed. The Jags just fired their GM because he was viewed negatively.
Regardless of what Glenn did or did not say, I think this is the key—Loomis appears to be an obstacle to hiring the best HC. At 68, he should retire, and let younger and better football minds take over.

I listened to his podcast when he said it. I think he's little more likely to be more correct then not based on how we saw Glenn not even waiting to do a 2nd interview with the Saints and his friend getting the GM contract from the Jets. I know a lot of people are skeptical, but didn't this guy also break the news about Young and needing surgery before anyone else and it was confirmed? Wasn't there also some other news he broke first about Payton stepping down?

On the flip side of that, maybe theres some news he has broken that has been proven to be incorrect in the past. Either way, I'm going to consider it a possibility, neither saying yes he's right, but nor am I going to say its made up/incorrect.

Mainly because whether its true or not, changes absolutely nothing.

If true, I doubt he asked for Loomis to be fired, rather he wanted someone else to handle GM duties (Loomis could move into some kind of executive role). Hartley is probably in the succession plan already, so no way it would happen.

I also don’t think the wish for a new GM is due to competence as much as wanting a fresh restart for a culture rebuild. Many on here want no part of any of Allen’s assistants due to the need for a culture shock, replacing the GM takes that train of thought one step further. The whole roster ends up on a level playing field immediately because they don’t have a connection to the new coach or the new GM.

Bryon Leftwich tried the same thing with the Jags a few years back. He was the favorite to get the job but he didn’t want to work with Trent Blaake. He had his own GM in mind. The Jags chose the GM and Leftwich stayed with the Bucs. I have heard nothing good about Blaake and you see he finally got let go.
Interesting, after I thought about it I figured it couldn't be that uncommon just not widely reported. Thank you for the info.

If it's true, I have a new level of respect for AG.
Me too. I have no idea whether the report is true. For those doubting this is possible, if I were Glenn's agent, and the Jets made Glenn an offer to bring in Glenn's guy at GM, I would /definitely/ go back to the Saints and ask if they would match that offer. Even if Glenn were leaning towards the Jets, asking the Saints to match, and if the Saints did match, it would give me as the agent more leverage to get more from the Jets.

Anything *can* happen, that’s not what I’m addressing. Glenn can certainly try for whatever he wants and a team can make whatever accommodations they are willing to. Doesn’t change the circumstances that he isn’t proven enough to be trusted with such demands. Payton and Tomlin are coaches who have earned that kind of credibility.
Kyle Shanahan was a first-time coach when he made that demand, just saying. I guess nepotism makes it okay.

I have no doubt that Glenn wanted a job that he could bring Newmark. I have no doubt that he has been around Loomis enough to know he didnt want to work with or for him.

But I doubt he made any kind of demand that Loomis be fired, or removed. He doesnt have that kind of clout. Honestly, he doesnt even have much in the way of a reason to be a head coach in the first place. He is lucky to be at the party, he isnt in a position to make those kind of demands.

I love the idea of Loomis moving on. But this seems like some semantics-gone-wrong, and this was reported in a way that it just wasnt.

Nick spreads the team narrative for inside info. He would never confirm something that blatantly belittles Loomis while Loomis has all the power.
Correct, people need to see Nick for what he is, a client journalist. Anything that he spreads is done so because someone inside the building wants him to.

People should stop taking everything he says as gospel and trust local media who have less skin in the game. Nick’s football knowledge is great but he toes the line far too much now.

My conspiracy theory is there is an anti-Loomis faction inside the Saints FO that is trying to force a change.

I think you’re correct. I know a lot of people might not like his style but Adam from the Block Party Pod has been suggesting this. He used to do a podcast with Underhill and has been spot on about a lot of things for a long time now.

HA HA!

That's Parcells/Belichick/Reid type juice. Aaron Glenn doesn't have that kind of juice.
Parcells recommended him to the Jets. I love how many people on this board continue to disrespect him, but most people in the league have nothing but high praise for Glenn.
