Unverified According to podcaster Timothy J Jones: Aaron Glenn wanted Mickey Loomis removed from GM position in order to take Saints job [mod edit] (98 Viewers)

  • Good organizations don't spiral completely to the bottom of the league just because of turnover (Pitt, GB, Sea, Phi)
  • Good organizations at least have a plan for replacing a HOF coach and QB.
  • Good organizations strategically build themselves back to relevancy.

  • The Saints have spiraled to the bottom, getting worse every year.
  • The Saints did nothing to replace the QB or Coach until year 2 (went with people already in the building), and since then have not done much else to improve those positions.
  • The Saints have only just started to show small signs of treating this as a rebuild, 3 years in, and are in the worst cap shape league wide, and struggling to get interest in an open coaching position.

Whether you are an ML critic (I am) or a supporter, this is all spot on....it's undeniable, the last 3 years have been an abject disaster when you really step back and look at the circumstances.....

That said, the last bullet point I take issue with, I haven't seen any evidence that the Saints are "struggling" to get interest in the HC position.....

Fair point - there is interest. But they're definitely struggling to attract the top candidates.

I guess that depends on who you consider the top candidates. The only guy we tried to get that we couldn't even get a zoom interview is Ben Johnson. And the only guy that we know we couldn't get an in person was Glenn. But we are going to get in person interviews with McCarthy, Brady, Moore, and maybe Kingsbury. I'd consider McCarthy, Brady, and Moore to be among the top candidates this year.

I guess you could say we couldn't get Vrabel, but I think everyone knew that Vrable was going back to New England where he was a very popular player and the heart of their defense.

I also think it's kind of funny that when DA was let go, people talked about Glenn as just a continuation of the Payton regime and not a top HC candidate, but now we consider him one of the top candidtes.

I mean, I think the rest of us want Loomis gone, too. But then again, not all of us want Aaron Glenn as head coach. So there's that.

According to Underhill, Vrabel, Johnson, and Glenn were the top candidates. You may disagree, but that is what he said.
Right, but those are also 3 guys who have been linked to the teams that hired them for the entire process.

So that was probably an unrealistic list of candidates from jump.

Neither of those three candidates took multiple interviews with other openings.

Brady was basically begging Johnson to give the Raiders a serious look and he opted to take the Chicago job he’s been linked to for months.

Vrabel was essentially a Pat as soon as Mayo was fired - so he didn’t really seriously open himself up to other opportunities.

Glenn has been linked to the Jets job by the media outside of Louisiana for a while as well. Glenn also didn’t take any in-person interviews outside of the Jets.

So we really didn’t have a realistic shot, at any point, for either of those three.

Your excuses have been noted. Mickey Loomis thanks you.
There’s no denying that injuries were a major problem. The problem stems from lack of depth, and that problem emanates from poor drafting and risky cap management.

Contrast this with Detroit losing tremendous numbers af starting defensive players and still being able to remain competitive up to a point. Eventually, they couldn’t compete—but the injury induced collapse of the Saints happened much earlier during the season. That’s where the recently poor drafting and highly questionable cap management came into play and doomed their season.

So, the injuries are not really an excuse—but rather the result of bad roster management: a symptom rather than a cause. And the only way out is to draft better, as I’ve said innumerable times on this board.

Tjay has done more than enough the past 24 months to tarnish his own reputation

With the GM situation in New York and now this, while I'm not saying that TJay is right or wrong, I will say that it is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Both 60Minutes and RebelMax have said it's not true and both of them are well known to have reliable sources.

All I said is it is crazy that we think that it is beyond any possibility that it could be a request, especially when you aren't desperate for the job.
