Adalius Thomas gives his thoughts on an 18 game schedule (2 Viewers)

Read the article this morning in my paper. He is actually a player rep. for the league so he was asked his opinion on all the new changes. He didn't like any of them. Its not like he was just sounding off to complain.

He made great points in the article.

Everyone always bashes these players anytime money comes up. This is a billion dollar company (the NFL) When did these owners start losing money in all this. These are the guys sitting in luxury boxes making money off these players. Its a 2 way street. Owners make BILLIONS, players building the league make millions A few million scattered on the players for adding 2 games to the regular season is fair IMO.

I personally liked his stance on the new "Brady Rule" much better.

Your kidding me right? Who do you think pays all these players that are busts? You think these guys just give their money back? And owners don't make billions of dollars, not individually. Tom Benson is only worth about 180 million. That's a few quarters short of a billion.

My wife just took a 5% pay cut at her job and also took on a larger work load because they laid a bunch of people off. She is literally doing her human resources job and another woman's job who left the company. I feel no pity for these players. Yeah the owner makes more money, deal with it. The owner also puts more on the line and takes more chances.

but the NFL isn't laying off the players, so why should the players have to work more for less? In a league where the owners are at no obligation to honor your contract and can cut you at anytime, every NFL player should be looking out for himself first and foremost.

You’re telling me that Tom Brady is going to play a regular-season game that would have been a preseason game for $1,200,” Thomas said. “You got four preseason games that you’re paying people, and you got a set salary from somebody that would make their normal salary. If you made $5 million that year, you’re almost making a $1 million a month based off the football season, so instead of getting paid your regular check you’re going to get paid [$1,225], and you’re telling me I’m getting paid.

“No, don’t even give me that. Your ticket price doesn’t change for preseason, so why does your pay change for preseason. That doesn’t make any sense to me saying we already get paid. No, [the league] gets paid [in] preseason.”

Awesome!!!!

“If you want to cry about money then open your books up to an independent audit to really show how much money you’re making,” Thomas said. “If you really want to cry about money open your books up put what you really make in the paper like you have put our salary in the paper every year so the fans can say, ‘They’re making this much money. Why aren’t they doing this?’

More awesome!!!

the average starter in preseason only plays 1 drive.... a quarter at the most... so... stop complaining..

whats wrong with some of you people. if my boss tells me i have to work more i only have 2 options.
1- i can quit and hope that i can find a job in this economy.
2- i can do it
i just dont understand unions, look what it has done to general motors. if someone owns a company he should tell you what you will be doing and working for, not the other way around.

I honestly agree with him. In addition, you will be putting the players in a higher risk of injuries and so forth. Everybody knows that the players are making a lot of money but that's how it is and no one in the world would take less money for more hours.

Careers will be shortened.

Don't like it. As much as I like football, I'd almosty prefer the 14 game regular season schedule and maybe add in another wild card game.

Injuries already decimate half the teams by December and this is only going to get a little worse as a problem.

There same pay now will be divided by 19 weeks, instead of 17.

Now that would be chump change now wouldn't it...

Hmmm... divide 1 million by 17 or 19... Still a bucket load of money most of us would take MANY years to reach.

I agree with the scene from Billy Madison.

if the season does get extended i'd assume that the amount of players allowed on an active roster would be upped also. it'd be more important to have depth to rotate in to keep your starters healthy.

i would....have you seen the unemployment rate..?

What's up with 18 games, anyways? They should just kill two birds with one stone and make it 17 games...8 home/8 away/1 in a foreign country with no home field advantage for either team. They get one more game and then fans and teams don't get jipped a home game.

I'd prefer just doing away with the international games...but it would be easier to swallow if EVERYONE had to play one and no one lost a home game.

I love these threads where people feel that athletes should do whatever they're told simply because they make a lot of money. As if the amount you make should reduce your rights. It dosn't matter what you do or make, and it dosn't matter what I do or make, simply because you're jealous(me too) that these guys get paid millions to play football dosn't mean they don't deserve to have rights.

Most importantly, people forget that our bosses can say "if you don't like it, quit." However, that dosn't work in the NFL. You and I can be replaced and our bosses could care less. You can't replace NFL players and still have an NFL. People won't pay to watch a crappy product. This is what people forget with the "go work at Walmart nonsense." The players have leverage, we don't.

Thomas is a moron.

It isn't a player's league................the nfl is a fans league. We are the ones that pay the bills.

BOO HOO you're getting paid to PLAY A GAME. Sure you are risking injury everytime you step on that field, but I'm a cook, I'm risking cutting my finger off everytime I pick up a knife at work, or getting a serious burn everytime I cook something on the Grill, and I only get paid $12 an hour (already have nerve damage in my index finger, half my finger is numb now).

Fishing up in Alaska is the most dangerous job in the world (statistically), and they only make a fraction what NFL players make.

These guys need to start being a little more grateful. I think they need a little reality check.

Uhhhhhh no! They get paid that much money because people like YOU love to see them play. The players MAKE the NFL what it is. They don't need to be grateful to anyone because it is THEM who put in the work to make this game exciting to watch. It is THEM who have been blessed with the physical and mental ability to do what 95% of the rest of the population cannot. You wanna watch people fish?

I really can't stand when armchair fans want to tell players to shut up when the PLAYERS are the ones who give you what you want every Sunday.

Get a grip.
