Adult site banner ads on SR? (2 Viewers)

Yeah, its all about the sites that you have been too recently. I get a lot of aquarium suppy vendors.
Not true.
There was another thread just like this a few weeks ago and a guys wife saw it on his computer.
I ribbed him about it, saying it shows ads based on your browser history.

Then just a couple daus later, I started getting them. And not that I'm a prude and wouldn't go to any site.... but I haven't and I still get them.

Right - but you were posting in a thread about them

Went right over my head with that reply.

Are you saying that if you post on a thread about a subject, the subject now becomes part of your browser history?

More or less. The presence and frequency of certain keywords get stored in (non-SR) cookies that are then used to determine what ads get populated on certain sites. The big ad providers can track these cookies in whatever site they host ads, so your browsing preferences across many (if not most) common public sites can be, not exactly tracked (well, that too), but compiled.

i tend to notice the threads im in around here match my banners a lot of the time. not always, as other things contribute - but especially if this is a high percentage of your internet activity you will probably notice if you go in the cruise thread and pop in to check updates a few times, post a few replies youll get some travel/cruise ads..... go to the dating/marriage trouble/hot girls threads and youll get singles ads

I'm waiting for the ad that combines the cougars with the Russian Love Match and Arab Lounge. Half Russian, half Arab cougar.
