NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -So here comes the offseason where the Saints, like always, want to be active in adding to a roster that came up one play short of a Super Bowl.
According to the salary cap website Over the Cap.com, the Saints currently have $12M in cap space. That’s not bad but not necessarily great either. They may need more cash to hit the open market.
And if they’re searching for more space, they should look no further than Andrus Peat.
Peat’s $9.6 million cap hit is fifth on the team but can be lowered significantly if the Saints extend him. If they believe in their 2015 first round selection, this offseason would be the perfect time to show it by offering him an extension. Larry Warford signed a four-year, $34 million deal in 2017. Detroit’s T.J. Lang is the tenth highest paid guard in the league at $9.5 million per season. Those two deals would be reasonable comps for any new deal with Peat. ...
